12.5’ kayak + Bed extender + Maverick

Much easier then car topping, like I’ve done for years. Strapped at the bow, middle through handles, back to bed extender and the stern to bed extender. Only issue with the harbor freight (and most) bed extenders is even on the lowest setting it’s a little too high for the bed. Nose of the kayak is on the bed and the stern is on the extender. In between is gradually raised up. Just going to wedge in my foam kayak pad I used with my old car.

Could you fashion a couple rails like you have on your rolling cart that would be tall enough to be even with the bed extender? That should give equal support in the bed and keep it even with the bed extender. I have one of those bed extenders and plan on doing the same for my two 12' paddle boards.

Glad to see this in action! Should hold my two 9’6” kayaks fine, and save me quite a bit on an over the bed rack. You could also seemingly raise them a bit with 2x6s in the bed slots covered in marine carpet?
Wish mine would get here so I could figure out the kayak questions lol

That’s a great idea, I’m just too lazy to take my bed cover on and off each time. If I raise my kayak it would hit the cover unfortunately.

Another great idea but it might make the kayak too high to fit under my bed cover and I’m too lazy to take it in and off all the time. It barely fits under it now.

I cut 4" off mine, but I run it vertical with saddles and the rear roof rack. My Kayak is 14 feet and too much would be past the "T" support.

Thanks for the pic. Just got my maverick last week! I’m a kayak fisher , have old town 106 pdl. The boat was to heavy for me to car top, and my old truck was a 87 Toyota. I bought my Maverick hybrid to go fishing all over my state.
I will be using the Boondox bed extender.

I have a 12.5 foot kayak that hangs out of my Chevy Colorado and will hang out of my Maverick when it arrives in 2027. I use a bunch of bungee cords. Going to just tilt the tailgate up on mine and go with the cords.I just tie an old sweat sock on the end. Never even been pulled over in ten years in New Jersey or Pennsy.

I don’t have one at all, want one that would be fairly level with the bed to haul lumber 8/10 feet long. Appreciate ya helping me, I just not familiar with them

That's going to vary by state and jurisdiction. Here in Fl, anything that sticks out more than 4ft just needs a red flag on it.
