RE: 2022 Ford Maverick Alloy Wheel Lug Nut Information

Searching for correct lug nut information for the new Maverick has been a challenge. Was able to ask a Ford Performance engineer for some guidance.

Here is the first thing I learned regarding OEM Ford Lug Nuts:

There seems to be issues regarding 2 piece construction. Unofficially, the recomendation on the performance side is one piece with these specs for Ford OEM Alloy Wheels:

Bolt Pattern = 5x108 (5x4.25)
Thread Size = M14 x 1.5
Hex size to match Lug Nut removal tool in 2022 Ford Maverick = 13/16
Wheel Tightening Torque = 200 Nm = 147.512 ft lbs
Height measured on hard surface of Lug Nut approximately 1 3/8 inch or 1.375

The above information is confirmed by checking our Lariat Luxury Package with 18" wheels and our XL with a Ford OEM 18" Alloy wheel.

Others that I and many others have tried are simply too long and stick out too far. As an example, all Ford F150 lug nuts that we tried were all over 1.60 inches long.

Question. When you posted others are too long, do you mean that they don't look right or that being longer compromises their ability to do the job?

Just google mcgard m14x1.5 lug nuts. The 64073 is their shorter option that ford dealers use for swollen 2-piece nut replacement. I've been running the black m12 version on my fiesta ST for years.

Thats on the list as one of the first things I will do when mine comes in. I can't believe they're still using the corrosion prone two piece design. I immediately switch our new vehicles out for solid one piece lug nuts because being stuck on the side of the road not being able to change your own tire sucks...ask me how I know. They do make a flip impact socket that is 18.5mm on one end and 19.5 mm on the other. That way if you are still running the stock 2 pc lugs it will fit over a swollen one or fit on one that the cover it either missing or you damaged it trying to get the lug off and its no longer present.

A lug that is longer than the spec one will be a non-issue other than in appearance. It will allow the full length of the stud to thread in and seat correctly in the wheel.
A lug nut that is too short however would have the stud bottom out in the lug before seating itself in the wheel.

McGard is a good brand, so is Gorilla.

I agree, its the highest I have ever seen.

Even the Ford Bronco Sport and Escape is only 99 ft lbs

Those are M12 studs vs M14 on the Maverick.

OP, did you switch to a 1 piece design on your actual truck?

147 lb/ft is nuts. Even if they aren't corroded, how tf do you take these off with hand tools?!

No, the original lug nuts are still on the Lariat. We put the new one piece on the XL with 18" Ford OEM Wheels.

BTW, just looked up 2022 Ford Mustang, even higher at 150 ft lbs

Give me a lever long enough and I shall move the world.

18-24 inch 1/2" breaker bar should handle that fine.

Sorry, I not very knowledgeable on lug nuts, if I understood correctly would a little longer length lug nut be better? The comment " It will allow the full length of the stud to thread in and seat correctly in the wheel. " caught my eye. I just want to make sure I order the correct/best ones, I don't want to make a safety issue/concern. If it makes difference, I'm waiting on the Lariat version with the standard 18" wheels. Thank You for your input/suggestions

LOL, keep the stock ones on your Lariat.

We have an XL that came with steel wheels and wanted the 18"s with Michelins, this is when you have fun finding the correct size lug nuts.

The ones shown in your post are way to long.............................................
