Killer vehicle for tall people…about a foot of headroom. With the seats folded up we fit a washer/dryer set in the back. Awesome boxes with terrible mpg to match lol!

Really? with several bitchfest threads already here- you HAD to start a brand new 1 because you are craving attention or something? Total waste of bandwidth and bad form.

Stifle yourself Edith!
Yeah I tried looking for the last bitch thread but couldn’t find it. I thought it was important that we have some of these threads though as these are things potential buyers should be aware of. If I had read this thread before it wouldn’t have changed my mind most likely about buying but I would have had different expectations perhaps. At least it’s not a thread asking how long for delivery :)

The paint issue is well documented on this truck and it sucks Ford hasn't resolved it yet. The Maverick pretty much requires a clear bra.

When I had my clear bra installed, the proprietor said he had a customer with a Ferrari 488 that had paint chips and refused to drive it until it was protected. He had the entire body of the car covered with it to the tune of $8,000 so he could enjoy his car. MSRP was $330,000. Shit happens no matter the cost of the vehicle.

This perfectly describes my thoughts haha what? Ford didn’t build the maverick to the spec of a Lexus??? 🤷‍♂️ the trucks base price is 8000 dollars cheaper here in canada than a honda civic. A honda. Civic. Lol and 12k cheaper than the base hyundai santa cruz. So if you were expecting it to have all the refinement of cars in a different price class… you can pay someone half of the difference in prices to fix all your gripes about the car. Be thankful the cloth isn’t adhered to the cushions so you can get a custom leather kit installed. To me, id rather a company charge me less, and let me decide what features i want to add and when i want to add them once i have the truck, than charge me a premium including a bunch of features i dont care for at all.… why did you buy a maverick!!! Lol dont take this as a hateful comment. I know through text it can appear aggressive. Im just failing to understand your perspective. But i do appreciate your honest review
I’ve owned a lot of cars, a lot. I’ve owned trucks like Ford Rangers, Nissan Frontiers, Silverados, Mazda. I’ve owned Ford Explorers, Honda Civics, Escorts, Cavaliers, Santa Fe, Volvo, Mercedes, Porsche.

I also used to work in a Jaguar repair shop.

I’ve owned a lot of cheap cars and as mentioned the majority of cheap stuff you expect, plastic, rattles, etc. Paint has only been an issue on one of the cheap cars I ever owned but that car lived it’s whole live in Hawaii and that was a common issue there. Seats in cheap cars usually held up for many years without issue.
If you want to compare the Maverick as a Ford Escort of trucks I guess that’s a fair comparison but I doubt many people here thought of it that way when buying. But maybe that’s the mindset I need to take so paint chips don’t bother me :)

Again I’m not saying it’s junk or a lemon or anything, my concern is how it will hold up after a couple of years. Ive had lots of good looking cheap cars after a couple of years.

Can you imagine the marketing? It’s a cheap truck, the Ford Escort of Trucks, get yours today :)

If what people are saying about paint changing due to environmental protection laws then perhaps it’s just normal for any new car.

Again not hating on the truck, love the truck, love the idea and design, just not overly impressed about the cosmetic quality and hope any issues don’t extend beyond that.

So lets summarize your list of complaints

If it’s getting chips after a month I can’t imagine how crappy it’s going to look in 10 years.

We have no context here. Where have you been driving? What are the source of the chips?

Interior plastic scratches easier than any car I’ve ever owned.

Its a sub $20K truck. What were you expecting? You can wrap it for a couple of $100 if you really wanted to.

Cloth seat covers not mounted to cushions as others have noted and look “loose” in places.

This sounds like a QC issue that your dealer should take care of. Did you contact them about it yet?

Speakers are junk, we’ve seen the pictures so not surprising.

Its a sub $20K truck. What were you expecting? You can replace them with better ones for under $100

So you are really unhappy? You have the option to sell it and get back what you paid. Good luck in finding ANY car that gives you the value that the Maverick has. But if those are your complaints, you should really purchase in a different price bracket.
Thanks Springboks for saying what I was thinking, in the REAL World I wanted a 50K F-150, I am a secretary and I know my chili red cute truck won't be the same and don't expect it to be either.

Mazda wants to be known as the premium option of economy cars and their vehicles are notorious for chipped paint, especially on the Mazda3 line (I was cross-shopping a while back)

Lol.. so I have a story.

I went to test drive one locally. The rear tail lamp was falling out.

i point it out to the dealership, the guy said “yeah sometimes we get them like that, just some clips”

he then just pushed the light back in and it snaps back in.

I mean I got base XL. I don’t care for that price point. The warranty period is all I plan to keep it for till the car market chills out.

had this been a long term purchase or pushing past 25k, this ain’t the thing (for me)

on another note, I have a 4-runner TRD pro That I bought 5 years ago. I think I paid 40k for it(70k miles on it now)

had a local dealer drive a car over for me to test drive. They offered me 37k for it. I was confused.

I think the moral here is, if your gonna keep it long term.. maybe not the right truck (or keep it cheap)

longer term truck…or if your build is more expensive…might make sense to pick another option?

Found chips in paint on front fender today, as bad as any chip I had on my 14 year old Honda Element with 225K I just sold. My wife’s 10 year old car doesn’t have any chips like this.

The list of little annoyances is starting to build.

If it’s getting chips after a month I can’t imagine how crappy it’s going to look in 10 years.

Interior plastic scratches easier than any car I’ve ever owned.

Cloth seat covers not mounted to cushions as others have noted and look “loose” in places.

Speakers are junk, we’ve seen the pictures so not surprising.

Im really concerned about the longevity of these vehicles.

I really like the truck but either this is first year incompetence or they cheaped out on everything.

For a $19K truck maybe this type of thing is acceptable these days but when you add features and pay $30k or more this is ridiculous.

I honestly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone right now based on the level of quality on some of these things. Hope the mechanical parts are built better than the rest of it.
So you plan on buying a Maverick and hope to get others to cancel their orders to get one for yourself? Clever!

Not everyone agrees that it isn't basic quality.

So interesting feedback and I’ll clarify a couple of things.

#1 - I like the truck, I’m not trying to be a naysayer.

My truck was $30K not $20K. People are paying $35-40K in some cases. Even a $20K truck shouldn’t have paint issues.
Cheap plastic I can live with, but the paint is a major issue and has been well documented as an issue already for many owners.

#3 My Honda Element was 20K and was a cheap car at the time, really the equivalent of a $30K maverick.

#4 My driving has been 50/50 and no gravel roads etc. I have the aeroskin hood guard on the leading edge thank god but nothing on the fenders.

Cheap speakers I can live with and plastic scratching isn’t a huge deal and even the seats is liveable but when you start putting it all together it seems sloppy. And I hate sloppy work.

Im not planning to sell the truck, I’m just raising the red flag that in another year or two I’m not sure how well these will hold up cosmetically. Not trying to rain on the parade as they are very cool trucks and I’m excited as everyone else about them, but it’s important that we note the good with the bad.
All of your complaints are valid. They are real issues with the truck. I used to drive a Hyundai Accent and the quality of the paint and interior of the Maverick seems to be equal to that (that was a 15k car back in 2017).

Some of the replies you get say something along the lines of "that problem already been documented, so shut up" and that seems like a silly reactionary fanboy response. The truck really does have issues, the end. Next question should be, is it worth it in the eye of the potential buyer even with those issues.

If someone were to ask me about whether they should get one or not right now, I too would tell them about these potential and seemingly common problems with this year one model.

I know you said you dont plan on selling it, but if you are already having doubts like you said in the title.... you should consider it.
