It baffles me that some states make you pay, essentially, property tax on vehicles each year.

In Ohio, you pay sales tax that's included at time sale and lumped into your loan if you get one.

After that, a $300,000 car pays the same for plates that a $500 beater would pay. And there's no inspections in Ohio.
Same in Iowa pay tax on purchase only. Registration is some like $300-$500 for a new car a year. As it get older drops in cost eventually being $50.

you suggested "nobody" wants the Mustang EV, that is clearly incorrect. Just because you have only seen 1 does not mean they don't exist...
Nobody's arguing that they don't exist. I'm just saying, on any given day driving through Los Angeles, you will likely see 100+ Tesla Model 3s and not 1 EV Mustang.

That mustang is an ugly turd, and calling it a mustang? Nothing like alienating your most loyal enthusiast fan base.

Unfortunately, Ford's stock price and the market forces that make ADMs a reality have no relationship in the way the OP frames it.

ADMS exist because supply is lower than demand.

Ford's stock is hurting because their profits are down as a result of not being able to build enough vehicles to sell.

As long as Ford flounders, ADMs will continue or only get worse.

I mean, the Model 3 has been out for about 5 years and the Mustang Mach E has been out for a couple months. On any given day driving through Detroit, you will see no Teslas of any kind and hundreds of Fords. I would expect more Teslas in California.

True, you have a point. Gas prices are the highest here than anywhere else.

California is more environmentally conscious and has a much better charging infrastructure. I'm not sure but I believe California offers tax incentives to buy EVs on top of the federal incentives. California has done a lot to support Tesla just like Michigan has done a lot to support the Big 3 and keep Tesla out. Neither of these two regions would be a good indicator of the popularity of such vehicles.

Listen to this man!

Another thing to consider is that dealers are placing ADM's no just out of greed, but also because their volume is down and they have to keep cash coming in just to stay in business. Ford's inability to provide dealer stock exacerbates the problem.

The supply chain issues are just another curveball the industry has to field but as always the customer must pay the cost.

Down to 17.86 today.

My problem is I bought F last spring when it was trading sideways at 11-12 for months and months. Got frustrated and sold. So now, it seems high.

To be fair, Ford announced adjusted per share earning of .26 compared to forecast of .45 EPS. With big revenue shifting to Q2 its time to buy F.

The old wive's tale about losing 25% (or whatever percent) "when you drive a new car off the lot" is silly.

Typically you lose the amount that the dealer made in profit. New or used.
The dealer paid wholesale, added a markup/profit and sold it to you at retail.

What's it worth now? It's worth wholesale again.

I say typically because we are briefly in bizarro world, where random cars and trucks can appreciate after the sale.

The 25% thing was more accurate in the 1950s or 1960s when dealers had huge markups and there were no window stickers.

Even worse was the absolute crap you posted in the 5th paragraph about all cars losing 25% of their value when you drive them off the lot.LOL Absolutely false, I can name a dozen that haven’t over the last 5 years and have actually completely held their initial value or appreciated, and I own a few. Since this is a Maverick forum are you suggesting those who ordered and purchased a XL for $20k have trucks only worth $15k now?

Sorry, I can’t respect those who are uninformed yet post long rants...

Everyone can spend their money as they wish, but in a year or so when supply catches up with demand, no one is going to give you more for your vehicle when you go to sell or trade just because you paid a 30 percent ADM. You'll get just as much as the guy who got his 4 percent under invoice. And for that ADM, you could have gotten something more than an entry level vehicle.

Lol, what.

How much do you think they paid for the money they lent you?

$1,226 for the life of the loan. If financing $25,000.

The Model 3 is now at 10-11 months…due mostly to the Hertz contract.
Long range model 3 is showing est. delivery in March for whatever its worth. Was planning to order one before covid/ remote work and the temptation is returning.

If this doesn't persuade people from paying a ridiculous ADM, I don't know what will. A fool and his money...
I can only think of 2 things, a better education or a Louisville Slugger to the back of the head! People are generally stupid, they bounce around like a mouse in a maze till they get what they want regardless of the cost & then complain it cost too much.

Ford gave me 1.9% for 60 months.
How much do you think they made off that?
$1,226 for the life of the loan. If financing $25,000. Good easy money for Ford.
Thats almost free money for borrowing, if you kept that 25K in a bank account you might get nearly $150 in 5 years.

You shouldn't pay over MSRP because it's a dumb thing to do. There really is no other explanation needed. The manufacturer who built the vehicle "suggests" this is what it is worth, which is always on the high side, as you'd expect when someone suggests what their own product is worth.

You also shouldn't pay it because no one needs a Maverick. Buy something else you can get at MSRP or cheaper. Deals are out there. Picking up a 2022 Civic Touring today at MSRP for my mom. We had to put down a $500 deposit for the allocation (Honda does not do orders) and it took 6 weeks to arrive. It's a much, much nicer vehicle overall than a Maverick and the MSRP was $30,360. Some people are paying that for Maverick XLs and $10k more than that for Lariats and.. no.. just no.
THANKS I am so happy to read that someone has common sense. I guess some people value a dollar earned more than others. Good luck in your Maverick adventure!
