In preparation for purchasing my truck, I’m trying to decide how to sell my current car. I could, of course, trade it at the dealer. However, they already gave me a low-ball offer. Since they don’t care if I walk, they have no incentive to give me any more on the trade.

I’m thinking about selling to Carvana, CarMax, or CarGuru once my truck arrives. I’ve never bought or sold from any of them. I was wondering if you all have had any experience with selling to these companies. The quotes I’ve received were around $3k-$4k more than what the Ford said they’d give me. What are your thoughts? Any advantages/disadvantages to selling this way? Any recommendations?
I sold to another dealer using kbb cash offer. The other local dealer cut me a check immediately for $2000 more than the Ford dealer I purchased the Maverick from. Was a bit more of a headache, but worked.

Ok. So Carvana showed up on time. The kid looked over the car, we signed some papers and he drove it around the block. He showed up in a Nissan, not a flatbed.

I gave him the keys, he gave me a signed bill of sale for $17776. I received an email that the sale was official and another email that my wire transfer had been pushed within an hour.

He said they would pick it up in an hour or so. For some reason, they actually picked it up at 3 am. I'm guessing they are short handed.

Money was in my bank this morning.
Glad that went so smoothly! This will definitely be the route I take. Thanks for following up!

I put our car on Facebook marketplace and sold it for quite a bit more than the dealer offered In trade. Other dealers saw it and made offers also.

Sell it to the highest bidder. I would say post it locally on craigslist/facebook because that's where you'd get the most, but the problem with private party transactions over $10k is worrying about how the buyer will pay. If it's over 10k cash, that's a lot of hundred dollar bills to count and counterfeit check and you'd need a secure location to do it at.

If they want to pay with a check/cashiers check/loan check, you have to worry about the 5-14 day hold the bank will probably put on the check before it clears. There would be nothing worse than accepting a $17,000 check, handing over the keys, and then 3 days later the bank calls and says there was a problem with the check.

I just finished the sale of my 2014 Corolla with Carvana today, and the overall experience was excellent. The pick-up took about 20 minutes, and 15 of those minutes were me talking to the pick-up guy about my Maverick. He saw it in the garage and wanted to know everything about it. Said he had been trying to find one to look at, and was interested in getting one. The Carvana offer was a couple thousand higher than Carmax, and more than $5K higher than my dealers online trade-in quote.

My experience was similar. My first 2 offers were from car buying places, in the 11k to 12k range. Then my Maverick ETA got pushed back. One of the original places jumped from 12k to 15kish. Then Carvana came in at 17.7k.

I'd guess this was caused mostly by the market for used cars getting even crazier?

Tried to see if the Ford dealer wanted it, but they didn't seem interested.

Carvana will be here tomorrow. As far as payment goes, we set up a wire transfer.
What part of Florida are you in? It seems like I'm beating my head against the wall in central Florida.

Sold my 2013 BMW X1 w/ 78K miles to Carvana for $10,600. I know Vroom and Shift offered a little bit more, but didn't want to deal with them reading from some other people's experience. Carvana was in and out of my driveway within 15 minute and handed me a check.
