In my experience dealing with charity donation they will ask you what you think it's worth, and write a receipt for whatever you say.
I'm not sure that is true anymore for vehicle donations worth more than $500. A lot of the major car-donation charities issue a Form 1098-C that reports the gross proceeds of selling your vehicle. You have to attach that to your Form 8283 when you file for your deduction.

There may be ways to get around these rules. I don' t know. But the general process is described on this website and in this IRS publication.

Fix the blower. Its not that hard of a job. Get someone with some mechanical skills to help. It will be worth it when you sell it. Nobody wants to sell around such an important item. Also you dont know exactly how long your truck will take with these delays.

Hold onto the car as long as you can. Spend enough to keep it on the road until you get your Maverick. Sell soon as you get your truck because once the new cars and trucks get their micro-chips and start getting delivered to dealerships, used car values will likely go down.

Agree totally. That is what I am doing with my old truck. It should make to the end of the year. I will donate it and get a tax write off after Vehicles for Vets sells it.
