Once I pay for it , it is mine to do as I wish with it.

Ford has screwed the pouch with the Bronco, Maverick, Mach-E and now the Lightening, so they will punish their (soon to be former) customers for it.

Sounds like unless you sign the Ford contract you can’t order the truck, and if you sign the contract then break that contract Ford has the rights. I’m not a lawyer, but signed contracts are binding.

The issue is, who owns the truck once you drive off the lot!!!

Hate to break it to you but there are lots of material and intellectual property items that “contracts” limit how a product can be re-sold or even given away. Commonly called “rights-to-use” sales agreements. They’re used to protect consumers and copyrights. European car companies had fits with this subject so started cancelling warranties for people reselling their cars at high markups.

So in the end it will be you vs ford. At the very least they will make it expensive enough for you that it will make it pretty much not worth the hassle. However I can’t see this holding up long term because regular people sometimes have legit reasons they need to sell vehicles. So who wants to be the person that starts the ball rolling on the good fight?

Like I said not a lawyer just an opinion, but there is also an issue of a signed contract to the rights to own, that states no resale for one year.

You cant put anything into a contract and have it enforceable if it is unreasonable.

If Ford is going to offer to buy the car back from me if I dont want it, then I can see it being reasonable. But if my life circumstances change and I can no longer afford the vehicle but cant sell it, then they can go fuck themselves to be honest.

Sheesh. This is an effort on Ford's part to protect you from scumbag dealers and scalpers. Sorry they haven't accounted for you not being able to afford it. Maybe don't buy it in the first place?

a) Great that they are making an effort, doesnt mean restricting what someone can do with their own vehicle is the best approach. Clearly it can have unintended consequences.

b) Like i said, they could offer to buy it back which would make it a more reasonable stipulation.

c) I can afford it. Weird 'insult' though.

It is Ford's job to police their dealers. Dealing with scalpers is your choice, just don't deal with them. The issue is Ford telling me what i can and cannot do with personal property.

Yep but there’s a huge problem with that letter. Ford acknowledged illegal acts by dealerships and calls out those acts by name. I’m not an attorney but that seems like a huge problem for Ford and may open them up to lawsuits. In other words, you’re doing it, we know you’re doing it, what you’re doing is illegal and knock it off or we cut off your allocations. Guess nobody at Ford has ever heard of criminal conspiracy. They probably should have added a sentence to say that: Any dealership found to have committed an illegal act may be subject to additional sanctions up to and including termination of the dealership franchise.
