So when did ford start using gaskets with oil drain plugs.never seen one before so just wondering not trying to start a fuss🤩
Gaskets have been used since at least 1997 when they went to metric sizes on most engines

Thats probably what I will do. Might cut a small hole/flap in the cover large enough to get my hand up there to connect the hose and open the fumoto valve. Then I can just let it drain right into an old oil container.
What exactly is the shield made of?

If you want JUST the washer O'Reilly's or ACE Hardware has a variety. Thanks for the heads up. I am changing my 2.0L oil tomorrow. O'Reilly's had the correct FoMoCo oil filter but not the air and cabin filters yet.
I also invested in a couple of 12" high drive on ramps from, of all places, Walmart. They are Made in the U.S.A. by Rhino. Cost for the ramps was like $42.50.

I have no idea. If the Maverick's shield is like the other ford vehicles I have worked on, its very similar to the material they are lining wheel wells with now.

And the filter?
Too much cutting of that shield could weaken it considerably. Not overall, but locally, should a rock, etc hit it “on a bad spot “.
I’m all for a solution to this one!
That one I'm not sure about. I may try what I did on one of my vehicles where I made an extension for the filter wrench. That way I could just have a round hole cut in the shield that matches the wrench diameter. Once the filter is loose it just drops straight down held by the wrench. I cut a small hole in the bottom of the filter wrench that lets it drain through my extension into the oil collection pan, so no spillage.

Yeah, but the filter is still above the shield. Maybe, once it’s unscrewed from the engine, it can be wriggled to get by the shield, but you still have to align the new filter to the male screw on the engine. (As long as it goes on vertically, do yourself, and the engine, a favor. Fill it with oil. You’ve got a jump on circulating the new oil.)

Just re-read last. Now I get it. Your hole (pardon me!) is the size of the filter, not the wrench extension. Maybe!

And that filter hole may be big enough to get your hand through to grab the hose extension from the pan.
We’re getting there!

You can attach a drain hose also sold by fumoto
I get my hoses from the parts store (Lowes/Homedepot) by the feet and just cut like 6 inches when I go to change my oil and toss it at the end. New hose each time. You could reuse but I don't want to deal with it.

Some cars have a hole cut out just over filter diameter size but also have a cover/plug that snaps into the hole.

Hello all, does anyone happen to know what type of oil drain plug gasket ford uses on the Hybrid Maverick? I'm assuming it's probably the same size as the Ecoboost but just making sure. Also, what kind is it? Rubber, copper, crush copper, single use aluminum velvet, etc?

Planning on stocking up on a couple oil filters and just wanted to have the washers on hand also.
As others said, the Oil Filter is an FL910s, but the drain plug has a reusable silicone gasket. As long as the drain plug doesn't get damaged by overtightening, the drain plug should last nearly the life of the truck. In the 10 years since Ford introduced this drain plug to replace the previous version with the integrated rubber seal, I've never had to replace one that wasn't either stretched from overtightening or rounded off (also by overtightening).
