📊 Ford Maverick Master Drivetrain Fluid Specs & Part Numbers
Hey guys, compiled a clean, all-in-one breakdown of the fluid specs, capacities, and official part numbers for the Maverick platforms (2.0L EcoBoost and 2.5L Hybrid) to make sourcing your next service kit easier. I got everything through Rock Auto. Also Summit Racing has the Valvoline ULV and Red Line 75W-85

⚠ Note: There is a widespread shortage of all ULV Transmission fluid. I went with the Valvoline Full Synthetic ULV.
1. 2.0L EcoBoost (8-Speed Automatic — 8F35)
  • Transmission Model: Ford 8F35 (Includes Lobo 7-Speed setup)
  • Required Fluid Spec: MERCON® ULV (Ultra Low Viscosity)
  • Total Capacity: ~11.6 Quarts (Higher on models equipped with the auxiliary transmission cooler like the FX4, Tremor, and Lobo).
  • DIY Drain & Fill Capacity: 4.0 to 4.5 Quarts (A standard drain plug service only drains what is in the pan, leaving the rest trapped inside the torque converter).
Transmission Fluid Part Numbers:

Qt. Bottle Fluid Pump- W1141
Trans Fill Funnel- W4034 18" Funnel

  • Motorcraft 1-Quart: XT-12-QULV
  • Motorcraft 5-Quart: XT-12-5QULV
  • Valvoline Full Synthetic ULV 1-Quart: 888460
2. Power Transfer Unit (PTU) & Rear Drive Unit (RDU) — EcoBoost/Hybrid AWD & Tremor/Lobo
If you drive an AWD or Tremor/Lobo EcoBoost/Hybrid model, you also have a front Power Transfer Unit (PTU) and a Rear Drive Unit (RDU) to service.

🔸 Front Power Transfer Unit (PTU)
  • Required Fluid Spec: SAE 75W-85 Premium Synthetic Hypoid Gear Lubricant (Ford Spec: WSS-M2C942-A)
  • Capacity: ~0.5 to 0.7 Quarts (Buy 1 Quart)
  • Motorcraft Part Number: XY-75W85-QL
  • Red Line Synthetic -75W-85 -Part Number :50104
🔸 Rear Drive Unit (RDU) — EcoBoost/Hybrid model Including Tremor and Lobo Twin-Clutch Setup
  • Required Fluid Spec: SAE 75W Disconnect Rear Drive Unit Fluid
  • Capacity: ~0.8 to 0.9 Quarts (Buy 1 Quart)
  • Motorcraft Part Number: XY-75W-QL
3. 2.5L Hybrid (Electronic Continuously Variable — HF45)
  • Transmission Model: Ford HF45 eCVT
  • Required Fluid Spec: MERCON® ULV (Ultra Low Viscosity)
  • Total / Service Capacity: 4.5 to 5.5 Quarts (Note: Because the HF45 eCVT is an electric transaxle case without a torque converter, a standard drain plug drop empties almost the entire unit's fluid capacity).
  • Motorcraft 1-Quart: XT-12-QULV
  • Motorcraft 5-Quart: XT-12-5QULV
  • Valvoline Full Synthetic ULV 1-Quart: 888460

⚠ MTC Quick Tip for Members:
Both the EcoBoost (8F35) and the Hybrid (HF45) use MERCON® ULV. Do NOT use older MERCON® LV (Low Viscosity) fluid, as it is thicker and can cause mechanical issues in systems built strictly for ULV formulations.

📝 Quick Update on Valvoline ULV Compatibility:
I contacted Valvoline tech support directly to confirm compatibility for a drain-and-fill on my 2024 Tremor’s 8F35 transmission. They explicitly confirmed that Valvoline ULV Full Synthetic ATF is engineered and 100% safe to use in applications requiring the Ford MERCON® ULV spec. If you want a premium synthetic alternative to Motorcraft that’s easy to source or bundle on Rock Auto and Summit Racing you are completely good to go!

Did you happen to ask about the compatibility when mixing the Motorcraft & Valvoline products, since a drain & fill only replaces about 1/2 of the fluid?

Thanks, HRG

Hey HRG,

I actually did ask them that question.

Valvoline tech support confirmed that their ULV Full Synthetic fluid is 100% chemically compatible and safe to mix with the factory Motorcraft MERCON® ULV fluid remaining in the torque converter.

Because they are both engineered to meet the exact same strict ultra-low viscosity performance parameters and chemical baselines, they blend together perfectly without any issues or fluid separation.

Excellent list! Should be a sticky in the Mechanicals/Maintenance/Oils section 👍

Redline 75W-85 meets Ford WSS-M2C942-A and is available over the counter at Oreillys.

The shop procedures for the PTU and RDU drain and fill can be found here. The RDU drain and fill plugs are apparently one-time use. Part number was mentioned as 6C2Z4N282AA.

Apparently Ford is pretty tight-lipped on the composition of SAE 75W Disconnect Rear Drive Unit Fluid. If I had an AWD outta warranty, I'd be tempted to just run Redline 75W-85 in the RDU.

Good lookin' out, notfast!

I completely forgot about the Red Line option. I will go ahead and edit the main post to add Red Line 75W-85 right next to the Motorcraft part number for the PTU since it explicitly covers the WSS-M2C942-A spec and is way easier to grab locally or Amazon, an Summit Racing! I know Summit Racing Had the Red Line And The Valvoline ULV too. Thanks

Best I have discerned is that the fluid is just a 75W GL-4 MTF fluid with a limited slip friction modifier add pack.

For the last two RDU changes on my Wife's Bronco Sport, I have just used Ravenol 75W MTF-3 with 2oz of limited slip friction modifier additive. Have over 30K miles with this combo and no issues.

Before the panty twisting ensues, I do not advocate anybody to not follow OM recommendations.

Yeah, I posted it so why would it not be clear to me?

I get it, doing something off label is a bit scary for some. Posting for the adults that can make their own decisions.

It’s not about being 'scared,' it's about basic mechanics. The standard AWD Maverick uses a regular open diff, but the Tremor and Lobo setups run an advanced twin-clutch RDU that is incredibly sensitive to fluid viscosity and shear stability. Telling people it's just '75W with some friction modifier' is a great way to help someone glitch their clutch packs or void a warranty. I made the thread to give people guaranteed, verified part numbers—not experimental science projects.

If I was really in a bind (no driveline pun intended) and couldn't find Ford 75W Disconnect Rear Drive Unit Fluid anywhere, my second choice would be Redline 75W MT-LV. Also available over the counter at O'Reillys.
