It has its own power backup (it is still on after a day on my kitchen table). Don't know how long the battery is for.

I have something similar to this on my 2026 AWD Lariat from a NW Houston Dealer.

Because it has a couple green and yellow LED's inside it that I can see are lit.
Well heck you're golden. Might as well go ahead and send it to a distant location or strap it to a squirrel. 😁

This thread has prompted me to check my maverick. I found something similar but I don't want to remove anything unless I'm sure. My truck is financed, if that makes a difference.

Edit: Also had a thought. Couldn't I just make a makeshift faraday cage out of like aluminum foil and then cover that with some electrical tape?

Carefully remove the two clips connected to your OBD wires, go to the dealership, ask for the dealership manager, show him (BUT DO NOT LET HIM TAKE IT FROM YOU) the box and ask him why he is tracking everywhere you go ? Be patient and wait to see what he has to say.
Please provide his feedback as I'm sure A LOT of people on this forum would like to compare notes.

Why? It's obvious they're tracking financed vehicles to simplify repossession.

Found the original post interesting. Decided to check my 22 Maverick. I paid cash-no financing. I found it just behind a bunch of cables. Company name on the device is Spireon. Quick Google check shows that they own LoJack systems. My dealer put it in when I purchased the truck to help justify $1200 worth of aftermarket add on's. I contacted LoJack and I was informed that the subscription expired in 2023. One year after purchase. I removed the device and tossed it on the garage shelf for now.

I was already thinking that same thing. My wife calls that type of device a pecker tracker. I just did a quick look under my dash to see if there is anything suspicious. Looks clear. ✌

I made my dealer remove the lojack GPS tracker, and after a few months, all the wires they had connected it to fell down near the pedals. Went back for my first oil change and made them pin it all back in place properly.

You could indeed do that.
But to get good enough coverage of foil - you are going to have your hands all over that bundle and wires - might as well just spend the effort getting it out.

Now - if your finance paperwork specifically calls out by signing you agreed to that and disconnecting gives them some immediate ability to respond - don't do it.

The internal battery on the tracking finally died (all the lights inside the unit are now off). Took almost a week.
