Hi all, we want to tow our 2025 Maverick Hybrid behind a Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Chassis RV (Leisure Travel Van). Particularly interested in the Demco Stay-In-Play brake system and base plate, tow bar and related hardware and wiring. Looking for what others payed to have a similar system installed. Not interested in DIY. We're in Denver.
TIA

Chuck

We live in Firestone. Did our 2025 Hybrid AWD last summer. Used the Demco Stay-n-Play, but went with the Roadmaster Baseplate, Towbar, etc. Hands On Auto Tech in Longmont (they recently moved to a new shop in Mead) purchased all parts and kits from eTrailer and did the install. Total cost for everything was $5800 and some change. Flat towed to Talladega last October and back - no problem at all. I used the heavier duty NightHawk Towbar. Baseplate required minor modification to the AirDamper. All sensors in front continue to work as advertised.

I have a Blue Ox tow bar and the RVi 3 braking system. Quoted $2000 to install a base plate, safety chains, charge wire and break away wire.

Let me know how it goes for you, Chuck. I have a 2025 that I'll be wanting to set up to be towed behind my 3500 sprinter (6 cylinder, not the 4).

I have an estimate of about $6600 for a Roadmaster baseplate, Roadmaster towbar, Stay-in Play brake system etc. on my 2026 Mav. About $2400 of that is labor -does that seem somewhere near a proper price for this? I am at an age where DIY does not interest me - just want to get this done so I can start using it. I'm in San Diego so the labor charges are probably higher than most of the country. My previous toad is for sale, a 2004 Jeep Rubicon, should get enough for that to cover this setup, hoping to get more than enough of course. Thanks for any insight and/or suggestions - would really like to hear from anyone in or near San Diego who's had a similar system installed.

Seems a little expensive to me but I know prices are different in different parts of the country

I purchased the RoadMaster Base (#524480-5), NightHawk TowBar, Combo Kit Nighthawk and the towed car charge line kit directly from RoadMaster for about $2,300 including shipping and taxes

I paid $800 for the complete installation by a local specialty shop

I didn’t purchase a auxiliary brake system

hope this helps

All I want is a baseplate.
What I really want to do is put a 2" hitch receiver on the front. To hold small Items like bike or scooter that I cannot put on the rear.
I will have a camper attached to the rear. So I don't need anything electrical up front. Just a universal mount.

Ideas? Cost?

Thinking outside the box....

Would a "base plate" also provide a way to add recovery hooks? Maybe even a quick connect hook attachment to the attachment point to your RV?

I'm curious, what's the advantage of flat-towing vs putting the runabout on a lightweight trailer?

You can buy light (about 1200lbs) aluminum open trailers for less than $6k that will haul pretty much any car, require no installation, and also allow you to back up (IIRC a toad can't easily back up?)

1. Speed, takes 2 min to attach/unattach for flat tow.
2. Space. Many places i camp barely have room for parking/storing a tow dolly let alone a car trailer.
3. Wieght, trailer is more wieght to haul, subtracts from weight for other stuff.
4. Maintance. Trailer is something else that needs maintained, stored, registered etc

I used to dolly tow, and not dealing with ramps, straps, etc is awesome. Flat tow is quick and easy enough that if you can take side trips while traveling.

I have an 1800 pound aluminum hydraulic tilt trailer with dual axles and brakes on all four wheels. About $8,000+ in today’s economy. You need a brake controller in the motor home and loading and unloading with tie downs takes 3X the time and effort of a flat tow set up.
Note to David O….had an issue with a flat tow set up and the first thing the officer checked was to see if I had an auxiliary brake system.

Update: We had the full Demco system installed last week including base plate, tow bar, Stay-in Play brake system with monitor for the coach and related wiring including charge line. Total cost was $4,750 at a local garage.
