The old saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". If we all had the same preferences and likes it would probably be a boring thing. I have stuff I love but many call it junk - including my wife  which brings another old saying "One man's junk is another man's treasure"
I thought the saying was "Beauty is in the eye of the Beer Holder"? :)

The Aztek featured an on-demand AWD system called Versatrak.
The first time I saw an Aztec my immediate reaction was to wonder how AMC had started producing cars again, having been acquired by Chrysler one before . . .

One of my fondest memories is of the cougar I had when I was 18.
Cue George Jones' "Corvette Song"

VW Rabbit Diesel (1980-83)
My girlfriend in college's father had one for his farm truck. He found the speeds to shift without the clutch when his leg was broken.

Anyway, when he went to trade it in, they started with the $1450 book, then deducted $1,000 for the diesel, and another $500 for over 100k (or maybe it was vice versa).

And told him that they owed him fifty buck!

He replied that he figured he could do better selling it himself . . .

It's not as ugly as the Tesla truck.
AMC, Aztek, and cyber truck are each even uglier than the other. . .

We had a Pontiac G8GT for 15 years and over in Australia, where it was the Commodore Holden (something like that) they had an "El Camino" type truck version of it. That would have been sharp had it made it to the USA!

Pontiac is the one brand I wish they would bring back.....

Had a '67 Lemans 326ci Powerglide. It had the rare factory reverb stereo simulator in it (used a spring to transfer sound over to the other channel). Loved that car, best RWD car for traveling thru any snow - just let off the gas and it would straighten out like an arrrow. Eventually swapped out the 326 2spd with a '70 GP 400ci/400 turbo - made that car a rocket!

Always wanted to buy/restore a '67 GTO Tri Power 389ci Muncie 4spd convertible. Came close to buying one once and unfortunately didnt. One beautiful bad@ss old factory hotrod!

Maybe it’s my age but I rarely saw people driving Buicks.. and Cadillacs were fairly rare too. Pontiac was the sporty Chevy. I’m not a GM guy but that decision confused me. I still think Pontiac would outpace the “old people” brands… and I’m “old people”!

My favorite car song (of many) was Johnny Cash "One Piece At a Time". Reminds me of my youth finding old rare car parts in junk yards back when the yards were popular and pennies on the dollar cost!

True about the Cyclones with the 429 Super Cobra Jet!! Do You have a link for the 2.3 EB Maverick ST?
I thought I read here that Ford was planning on doing this in 2027? Am I dreaming? Senior moment? I hope not, giving serious consideration for one.

At first, I thought you were gonna mention the Dodge Durango in some type of terrible recall or something. I had no idea that Mercury was the first to use that name. Maybe it's because of the obscurity or also because I'm too young since I was far from being born back then.

In a weird way, I think it's kinda cool. Anyone I know would call it butt ugly but that's what I kind of like about it. It's ugly but unique at the same time. I would love to see one but my chances are slim to none.
Well, I was born in 1940, was a car guy since my first car in 1957, and never heard of a Mercury Durango until today!

Yeah I remember bench seats.
My girl would slide right up next to me,
Hip to hip.
I’d reach for the stick shift and miss…..
Or when I put it in fourth gear. :’P

I liked her bare feet up on the dash.

I miss my 1980 F-150 more than any other truck I ever had.

The 1980 Ford F-150 primarily featured the durable 300 cubic inch (4.9L) inline-six engine as a standard powerplant, known for excellent low-end torque. This 7th-generation truck, often dubbed the "Bullnose" (1980–1986), also introduced significant updates like Twin-Traction Beam (TTB) front suspension, with the inline-six serving as a reliable workhorse choice.
I also loved my 1986 F-150, 6 cylinder, last year I think for the 3 on a tree, basic truck. No power anything, but had an AM radio. Simple to work on, and lots of room under the hood!

Yeah man !
I had the 260 Air Conditioner,
Roll down two windows and go 60 MPH
:’P

Mine was 4 on the floor and had power brakes.
That Inline six was fantastic !

I blew a head gasket.
Total repair cost with a head job was $300

Some vehicles were "interesting" others were better ignored.
I remember a friend with a Mercury Moch. It was a M O N A R C H but the NAR was on the back on a plastic tab that covered the fuel filler. It broke off after a few trips to the gas station, so most became MO CH...
In his case it was parked in a lot, hit in the rear from another car, caught fire and burned up.
If only that NAR would have been in place, tragedy could have been averted...

Saw this article this morning. A few points about it.
1. I miss the Mercury brand.
2. So glad Ford did not trademark the Durango name and let Chrysler have it.
3. I forgot just how ugly the Fairmont/Zephyr models were. But so was most everything in that era.
4. I kind of wish Ford had continued the "Trarck" or "Cruck" product line. Which is kind of what the Maverick is in my opinion.

My wife bought a Fairmont while I was out of town. Engine fell apart after four months. POS
