The WolfBox G900 TriPro I installed is completely separate from the vehicle’s electronics there is no interaction between the aftermarket camera and the vehicle
Does WIFI and BT need to be disconnected to veow the video on this cam?

... I have to disconect from carplay in order to see the video as the two cannot connect simultaneously. What kinda doo doo is this may I ask?
Yeah, I don't love the "direct to device" WiFi setup required to download videos. I'd rather the device connect to my home network when I get home or even it connect to the built in hotspot of the truck. As long as the only method is for me to directly connect via WiFi to the device, this is the only option, as the phone just cannot connect to two WiFi networks at once.

I'm considering other options:
1. Buy a second SD card, then just swap out the card each time I drive, and download the videos from the card direction to my laptop. That way I don't have to worry about forgetting to bring the card back.
2. Set up a Raspberry Pi to look for and connect to the device periodically and automatically download everything. This would obviously be a much more complex setup requiring coding and it would be fragile. Also I think the device ONLY turns on the WiFi when I ask it to, not like all of the time, so I'd still have to fiddle with it and then hope the Rube Goldberg setup on the Pi worked. So the SD card swap seems not much harder.

I think they assume you will rarely want videos, so it is OK if it is a complex process.

You can view the video directly ON the rear-view-mirror anytime, but to download the videos to your phone, your phone has to make a WiFi connection to a bespoke netowork that the device creates, so you have to disconnect from everything else to do that.

I'm hoping maybe I'm missing some other option, other than pulling the SD card, but if not, that might be what I go with.

I like this cam. Also has options available for live stream and a battery set up for the cam. Seems pretty clean. Thoughts??

Sorry to read of your problems. I just received my second different brand of dash cams yesterday. I was unable to connect to wifi on both dash cams. When I thought it was connected, it would disconnect.
I could not get the dash cam to work with my phone.

I just gave up and returned the dash cam.

Must be a tech limitation. The camera cannot connect to your phone and anything else on wi fi at the same time so to get the video you have to pull the card or disconnect from CarPlay and then reconnect to the camera. Pretty clunky but I think they are all the same.

You are right. I just wanted to go to my phone, find the video, without disconnecting CarPlay.

You need to add and LTE dongle to do that. Then you can stream directly to your phone from a cloud.
