Port injection is much less expensive than direct injection.
Direct Injection, however, is much more efficient - more power & better mpg’s.

If the Hybrid had direct injection - it would get better mpg’s. But it would be more expensive & build up carbon deposits faster due to the start/stop tendencies.

Having both port & direct is the best of both worlds. Becoming more common.

In my opinion, Ford did redesign, like other vehicle mfr did to their engines. And pin any valve cleaning as maintenance chore item.

Really? !!!

This whole DI biz is about Cafe mileage rating. And some saying dirty valves means poor performance, and maybe GPM.

Some of us low mileage retirees use our private jets to see the sights;)
Good point. Considering I live close to a pretty large gen av facility (DPA), I should probably start looking for a deal on a used BBJ 737 to keep the miles off the Maverick,,,,

You need to up your game. My 2024, bought in Sept '24, just hit 34K. I'm retired too, but I'm out seeing the sights,,,,,,

Before I brought the Maverick, had a F250 diesel towing a fifth wheel. Traveled for 12 yrs! Seen plenty of USA. Before I retired traveled the world, working in oil patch. I think I’m up already. Have 2 big travel plans….Alaska cruise and Mississippi River cruise. Right now pinned down with a 97 yo MiL with poor health.

Did the Alaskan Cruise thing June 2023. Holland America in & out of Seattle, Neptune Suite. I'd do it again tomorrow!
I hear 'ya about the work travel. For the 33 years before I retired, I had a company car, that I had to document the yearly miles traveled. 1.2 mil over those 33 years, without a single accident. All over the USA, but I rarely got to stop and enjoy the scenery. I'm making up for that now.

Direct injection provides better performance since it's injecting atomized fuel directly into the cylinder instead of just dumping it into the airflow pre-valves and hoping for the best as far as mixing in the cylinder. There's a reason diesels have been using it for decades. It's not some green scam to wreck your engine.

And to think we survived for decades using a single carburetor dumping fuel into the intake manifold,,,,,,,

It’s no secret the 2023 EB engines will see messy intake valves once mileage put on them. Then depending on how engine maintained, comes a time the valves will need cleaning, probably blasted with walnut shells.

And it’s no secret the new 2025+ EB engine are now fitted with intake manifold injectors with intent to “wash” the intake valves, prevent junk buildups.

Hence here’s my question - if the “power train” warranted for 100k miles for 2023 models, does it mean that if the engine intake valves requires inspection, and cleaning, does the warranty cover inspection and subsequent blasting/cleaning of the valves? Or we owners are out of luck?

Anyone experienced, how dealers handle situation like this?
no , maintenance, Try Chevron's fuel additive for 2 fill ups

Ford would not warranty this as it would be considered maintenance.

As for those mentioning running an upper-engine cleaner through the throttle body, that would definitely help in some way, especially as a preventative measure.

The throttle body is hard to access though. There may be an easier way to do it by going through the vacuum port for the brake booster on the intake manifold. Something I've been meaning to investigate when the weather gets warmer.

Long ago I had a Marvel Mystery oiler canister that attached to a vacuum line. I installed it on my 52 Chevy. It drips droplets of oil into the vacuum line. Suppose to lube valves.

It was up around that cost - and it said walnut shell blasting.
Haven't seen it posted in awhile.

But indeed, seen many "the works" posts with the obvious fuel additive solution way overpriced also, and very early.
But then again, do need to start that early to prevent a problem, since that's not going to remove a buildup problem.
Or as it's always replied back - just use top tier fuel.

Not sure I noticed your throttle body work mentioned - that would make sense for labor then - feeding a can in hopefully over a while - probably getting rid of the error codes afterwards because it was open air system.
Top tier fuel is certainly the way to go, but in a direct injection (only) engine it has absolutely no affect on intake port/valve carbon buildup.

Agree Top Tier is the way to go.

However, studies have shown that that Top Tier fuel greatly reduces intake carbon buildup in DI engines vs non top tier. 19 times less buildup according to an AAA study. Not 19% - but 19 times less…about a 95% reduction in carbon buildup on intake valves.

Dirty Fumes escaping into the intake valves are coming from the combustion chamber. Top Tier and gas tank additives / detergents are in those fumes:)

Agree. In DI engines fuel does not flow thru intake valves. The design has pluses and minus, not perfect. Like a campfire, the wood condition ascertains if there’s smoke or not.
