Think about it. Clearly that supposed aero improvement is a lie.
My point was intended to address the veracity of AI, not the "questionable" aerodynamic improvement in the recent facelift. Even without any data to support it, AI will use a stated opinion when it's unlikely there is a verified source to establish a fact.

This thread has some twists and turns and recently been on an AI left turn from the original topic of the appeal (or not) of the front end facelift. Apparently you missed that turnoff.

As far as it being "clearly" a lie, I agree it's doubtful, or at least significant, but I've yet to see any proof either way, and I doubt that there is any, as even if there were a miniscule improvement, it would not be worth the cost of a wind tunnel test, especially for a mid cycle refresh.
It may even be worse. Without test results it's all conjecture.

That doesn't mean there is no difference, just that it "clearly" hasn't been proven either way, unless you have access to the Ford data for a test they likely didn't perform, but you, like everyone else likely doesn't. Or maybe someone does...

Grok AI prefers the refreshed grille & headlights over original:

“If I had to pick, I'd go with the new grille/headlight combo — it looks sharper, more premium, and a bit more purposeful in photos and reviews. The original was endearing, but the refresh feels like a natural evolution that keeps the Maverick looking fresh into the late 2020s.”

I also asked what it thought were the most stylish looking pickup trucks currently on the market. It had the Maverick on its “personal” choice list - saying it “punched above its weight”. :)

Why would anyone care about AI's opinion about anything?

Front end in dark colors fine. Light colors, especially white, accent the ugly

You know what they say about opinions - everybody’s got one.

Ford designers make extensive use of generative AI to come up with body shapes & styles. Your Maverick body is probably based on an AI “opinion” probably.

Step away from the AI. It is not your friend, no matter how much it flatters you. It just tells you what it thinks you want to hear to maintain engagement.

An actually useful answer would be the actual drag coefficients of both models.
That would be the answer, but it doesn't seem like there is one.
I just tried this question:
"2025 Ford Maverick XL drag coefficient vs 2024 Ford Maverick XL drag coefficient"
The robot replied:
"The drag coefficient for the 2025 Ford Maverick XL is estimated to be around 0.348, while the 2024 model's drag coefficient is believed to be below 0.400.
Hmmmmm...

Second Question:
Fuel usage impact for the difference between vehicles with .348 vs .400 drag coefficient.
The robot replied:
"A 10% reduction in drag can improve highway fuel economy by about 5% and city fuel economy by about 2%. "

So, the '24 XL didn't have a solid number, and the '25's number is also likely to be someone's swag. If the numbers have any semblance with reality, the '25 may be a cleaner shape.
Or not.

The question remains, is there any competent, verifiable source that has published data for the drag coefficients?
If there is, it is hiding infinitely better than Waldo in a huge sealed concrete box.

After some additional probing, the robot let the cat out of the bag:
" There are no official figures published, so this is based on estimates and discussions in forums."

That is probably the only useful information it provided.

Alrighty then...
If folks get busy on this thread, and people put out their estimates which are really low, we can probably get the robots to report drag coefficients of the entire Maverick series reduced to fighter jet specs of 0.012 or even lower!

EDIT: I went a math related AI route which uses published engineering data, (if the robot is to be believed) and it came up with a drag coefficient of 0.37 for the '25 XL and 0.30 for the '24 XL.

It also came up with 0.33 for the '23 XL which I'm thinking has no shape difference from the '24 XL.
My belief that AI is a quick way to come up with misinformation remains confirmed..

There is a caveat to that.
If you ask a room with 12 attorneys a legal opinion, you will get at least 13 answers...
So some have more than one...

Without access to Ford's engineering data, no one will know the Cd. It doesn't matter how clever a question you submit to AI.

Style wasn't on my list when I heard of the Maverick. Utility, efficiency, size and price were what I was considering.

I doubt “style” was on any of our lists. It is a hot topic to debate, however, based on the number of responses to the OP:)

I chose the Maverick on the tailgate height alone - it is the lowest on the market for my old bones. The Lobo’s lowered rear end was icing on my cake:)

PS…the lowered Lobo has the lowest drag coefficient of any Maverick. More icing on my cake.

I never thought about the tailgate height when I bought My Maverick. Until I unloaded the 30 1.5 cubic feet bags of mulch last summer and thought man it was a lot easier unloading the mulch then when I had F-150's.

Exactly my point. I just included some background which led to that conclusion.
What was useful was that even the robot couldn't find it, as it isn't published.

Maybe @Darryl can take a peek.. :sneaky:
