There are many reasons that people need a vehicle and are unable to wait 6+ months for it. My current vehicle has 180k miles on it and as long as it is able to get me to and from work I am ok. If the transmission goes out or some other major mechanical issue makes the car undriveable I am going to have problem.

There have been a couple of threads here where Mavericks were totaled in an accident. I doubt those owners are able to replace their vehicles with another Maverick even if they have cash in hand unless they were able to find one on a dealers lot for $5000 or more dealer markup.
I was one of those not in the market for a vehicle. In a blink of an eye my car was totaled and I needed something now.
Unbelievably and fortunately I found a maverick that a dealer just got in and charged msrp.
It does happen that sometimes you can’t wait.

Maybe you could elaborate? The dealer salesperson just gave me the word that other buyers from NM had had difficulties registering when they got home, and buying in AZ wouldn't be possible for me.
I don't know if you are responding to my post or to something else. If you want to respond to a specific post, you need to click the "Reply" link in that post. (Come to think of it, I've pointed that out to you before. So maybe you are not responding to my post and I am wasting my time.)

In any event, if you are wanting elaboration on how the Arizona title system works, just click on the link in my post. It will take you to a web page with info on how it works.

Sorry. Probably thought my quick response would immediately follow up your post. Guess somebody outdrew me. I checked your link and it reminded me, the salesperson asked if I had an AZ residence, which puzzled me. I don't. I think that's the snag. You have to be a state resident registered at the DMV. Why I couldn't have the dealer ship my purchase to one of their other dealerships in my state is a mystery to me. Salesperson said they would look into it but I never heard back. Maybe there's some regulation that prevents moving the vehicle across state lines??

LOL!!!! I TRIED to snag a SC limited, even looking in other states. Most are spoken for before they arrive. Those on the lots near me have as much as $14,500 amendment added. Dealer nearest me wanted to hang up on me when I talked about buying at MSRP, and insisted they wouldn't eliminate the classic dealer chump upgrades, such as tinted windows, undercoating and my favorite - Nitrogen-filled tires. Dealerships are not dead yet! BTW, in attempting to snag one out-of-state I encountered another barricade. Arizona (close to me) has instituted a DIGITAL title system. A paper title never exists except in Arizona's state records. I was told that several buyers from my state had attempted to buy in AZ and drive back home to register and the home state refused because no paper document was available. Your finance company holds your title until payoff, and they also would have no access to your title. If this system becomes widespread our buying options will soon shrink.
::sigh:: I am talking about IN THE FUTURE. Ford wants build to order to its new business model, but unless the other automakers also do the same, Ford will lose a lot of sales to other brands that people can buy today. So, IN THE FUTURE, if someone goes into a Ford store and is told 2-3 months wait time, and then they drive down the street to Hyundai ( just as an example) and can buy a vehicle the same day, they are likely to do that.

Farley flat out said, 180 lot supply is going to 90 days. New normal.

Only if they need it that day though! Part of moving to a build to order requires a car maker have inventory that customers are willing to wait for. This might not work for an F-150 or a Ranger, but the Bronco and Maverick seem to have hit the nail on the head (I'll give a nod to the Bronco Sport here as well, it seems to have its own appeal and is selling well).

Then you have the Electric Mustang and forthcoming F-150 lightning - another couple of models that are/will be exceedingly popular. If you build it, they will come!

Have you tried to register on AzMVDnow yet? It's been a while since I set up my account there, but I don't remember having to prove residency. Maybe you do, but I wouldn't just assume that.

I think we are seeing a gradual transition between sales models, not the flipping of a switch from one to the other. Ford is still providing cars to dealers and probably will continue to do so as long as it makes economic sense.

I don't know their corporate sales strategy, but I doubt if Ford just overlooked the possibility of losing sales to other makes whose dealers have cars on the lot.

Sales person said residency was a requirement, but it might be worth calling someone else over there and getting their version of the situation. I can't see how I could register in AZ when I live in NM. You could extrapolate to a time when everyone uses digital docs and just emails them around, actually making things a bit more simple, but when only one or a few states do it it becomes a limitation, especially in a time when many of us are looking all around the country for vehicles.

Maybe you could elaborate? The dealer salesperson just gave me the word that other buyers from NM had had difficulties registering when they got home, and buying in AZ wouldn't be possible for me. The dealer actually has businesses in NM and I asked if somehow the vehicle couldn't be moved here to complete the transaction, or if there was some method of doing the deal in my home state and having me pick it up in AZ. He wasn't really very helpful, and may just have been trying to brush me off, because finding local buyers isn't exactly difficult right now and selling to someone out-of-state would be more hassle.
I bought a custom made trailer out of Mesa, AZ in August of 2018. I live in CO. I had heard people were having to pay tax, title and license fees in state of origin, then go through proccess in their home state and get double taxed in the process. My DMV was very helpful with a proccess to avoid this. I asked the dealer for a non-resident purchase agreement and no AZ title or sales tax since it was going directly to CO. There is a DMV statute that allows this in some states, and I got a paper temporary tag put on it that gave me a few days to tow it back to CO. You can also have it trucked out of AZ and as long as the wheels never hit the road the new vehicle doesn't have to be registered in AZ. All the 4 corners states have an agreement to do this. I'm in CO but my DMV guy said NM, AZ, UT all allow out of state purchases without having to title and register anywhere but your home state. I don't remember the exact AZ DOT forms needed but you might check into it...

I suppose you could talk to a sales person or mess around trying to find someone else to call. But if all you want to know is whether you can set up an account on the AzMVDnow website, just go on the website and try it. It will either let you or it won't, and then you will have your answer.

PS: I'm not sure what you mean by "register." I'm not talking about registering a vehicle. I'm just talking about setting up an account on AzMVDnow so that, if you do end up with an Arizona title, you can order a paper copy. (As I understood it, lack of a paper title was your original problem).

Before discovering the Maverick, I'd been considering a few different models of cars, most notably the new Corolla Cross, VW Tiguan, and the Kia Soul or Seltos. Bored with Honda so I wasn't considering any further purchases unless they suddenly decide to bring back the Element. Most of the Toyota dealerships in the area are marking up the Crosses by several thousands of dollars. Not playing that game at ANY dealership. I'd just as soon drive my Honda until it's ready to be put out to pasture. While I was told 12-16 weeks for a Maverick, I don't mind waiting longer for it if I have to. My only worry (and I'm sure I'm not alone with this concern) is that the trade value goes down on my Honda in the interim. Don't want to be stuck with a huge monthly payment.
I sold my trade to carvana for 5k more than ford dealership offered as trade, left me 5k less to pay for maverick(I had another vehicle to drive while waiting )

So in September 2022 the UAW contract expires, the big 3 will not have a 90+ day supply of vehicles to sell during a strike. Seems like the workers have more bargaining power this time.

🤔 Probably a problem they didn't think about when they set system up. I'll bet the buyers that bought stated they were residents of AZ and paid sales tax and got title in AZ. In any case AZ will have to furnish a paper title if bought in AZ. And if sales tax was collected in error dealership will have to refund it or sign affidavit that they collected it in error and buyer will have to petition refund from AZ. I guess you don't have those problems though. Find another dealer to buy from that will courtesy deliver to a dealer in your state. I read somewhere that a dealer in Nebraska will deliver to your doorstep and pay up to $1,000 freight if you finance through him. May have been on this website, I do not remember any more. Check around. Good luck.

I have mentioned here before that those good old days are over.

Unless demand goes to zero.
And since inflation has not put the brakes on the economy as of yet.

So if people currently are willing to pay the said higher price, is what they project future revenue on. And can make bold statements.
If inflation puts a real break on the economy and we see demand go away then they will lower prices to have some form of revenue.

But we are too busy raping this planet to be green and Electric in all the rare earths needed for this supposed decarbonization. But I digress.

It will take some time till all of this free multi trillion dollars the fed created out if thin air goes away, high prices are here to stay. And our dollar becomes worth less as each month goes by.

I personally believe they are spending and printing like crazy because they know they are going to default on the dollar. Or a few zeros of it anyway.

The real value of tomorrow are
Assets(homes cars property), Fine metals/crypto, and real life skills, coding, welding, repair, crafting, creating designing are what future wealth is going to be like.

Not cash that is used to cover short term dept.

Soon the paper money is printed on is going to be more expensive then its face value if it has not already.

If people understood true capitalism there would be no poverty.

I recommend anyone that wants and needs know how to love America and what it stands for our capitalist economy and constitution must read Thomas Sowell
an outstanding human being on top of his wealth of knowledge.

http://tsowell.com/

But hey us men are broken creatures imperfect in the face of creation.
