So our 2024 Maverick is the first new vehicle that we actually ordered the way we wanted it. We liked the way it looked, the gas mileage and the towing capacity. We picked up the truck in February of 2024, in April of 2025, we were on our way to Moab, Utah with our utv in tow when we lost power, turned out the turbo had gone out with only 11,000 miles on the odometer. Since getting it back, we've had issues with it shifting from second to third gear. It has slowly gotten worse. We took it into the dealership at 13,000 miles, but they couldn't duplicate the issue. Now it's at the dealership again for the same issue(only it's gotten worse)and has about 24,000 miles on the odometer. Has anyone else had these two particular issues? I've looked online and it doesn't seem to be a common issue?

Did dealer explain how the turbo went out & did they cover it under warranty?

Many others on the forum have noted hesitation going from 2nd into 3rd - but only before transmission warms up. Is this what you feeling?

The turbo has been shown to especially reliable - at least on this forum.

I’d have to guess a manufacturer defect or someone didn’t follow the advice of the Turbo Nag - especially Nag#2 after a long towing stretch…

Edit - the reliability of the redesigned turbo in the 25 is yet to seen (fingers crossed) - but the OP has the tried & true 22-24 turbo.

Are you sure it is 2-3 that it is having trouble with? The 8F35 was co-developed with GM and their 9-speed.

Ford didn't feel the 9th gear was worth the weight or complexity and dropped it to the 8-gear 8F35 and the 2-3 ratios are so close the transmission often acts as a 7-speed and goes 2-4.

My Lobo in manual mode shows:
1-2-3-4-5-6-7
With physical gears as:
1-3-4-5-6-7-8

I get a bit of hesitation/jerkiness when cold between physical 3-4 shifts. Goes away by the second time it does that shift not too long after…I consider it normal.

Highly Unusual for the turbo to go out. Out of curiosity, are the total weights of the utv, trailer, gear, etc within the tow limits of the truck?

So it was covered under the lifetime power train warranty that came with it. The shift issues happen when it's cold and also if you're driving and stop somewhere for ten minutes or longer, it will usually do it again when you go to leave. It's like you've pushed in the clutch on a standard while still applying gas. You can watch the rpms go up and then down when it catches third gear. Twice while getting on the gas from a stop, it kind've banged into gear and once when slowing down it shuttered.

The dealership didn't tell me exactly what went wrong, only that it was something internal.

My bad - It is the 1-3 shift not the 2-4 I believe. Basically the truck skips second.

Maybe for some reason the transmission module needs reset or recalibrated after the turbo work

Yes, it always 2nd into first where it feels like it slips. Fingers crossed that the dealership can get it fixed. The turbo going out at 11,000 miles was ridiculous. Luke of the draw I guess.

Very possible.
