Per google etc…

“By 2026, China is expected to sell more EVs annually than the US sells total vehicles.

China's dominance stems from factors like affordable models (many under $25,000), extensive charging infrastructure, and consistent government incentives, such as tax exemptions extended through 2027. In contrast, the US faces challenges including higher prices, tariffs on imports, and potential cuts to subsidies.“
Are you sure that are actual sales to customers? The parking lots full of 'sold' EVs has been well documented. Everything in China is smoke and mirrors.

Like most Chinese cars, this is extremely unlikely to come to the much smaller vehicle market in Merkuh. BYD and other companies there make plenty of money selling domestically and to neighboring countries that don't have a system of expensive graft and bribes to for "inspection and certification" to be legal to sell. It's very expensive to qualify a new vehicle for the Merkun market, which is why Ford and others don't change their vehicles very often, letting the original inspection and certification qualify as long as possible. Seems like 10-15 years takes place before a major model change happens, that would require re-certification.

Thus, Chinese car companies don't need to be bothered with it when their market is already much larger. And cooperative India is right next door.

Not only are there safety and emission requirements to be sold in Merkuh, there is also a minimum acceleration standard. That could be construed as "safety", since a 0-60 in 20 seconds vehicle WOULD be a hazard on our highways.

But an electric "pickup" (not really, more like the unibody Maverick) would be fine. As I repeatedly mention, not many people need range more than a couple hundred miles. Those people live in rural areas, or do an unusual long daily drive as part of their work, or as consequences of their choice to live a LONG way from their place of employment. Those people should just get an ICE car/truck, and I applaud them for that decision that fits their needs. Most of the Merkun population lives in towns and cities, and rarely drive more than 75 miles per day, most drive less than 30.

But then again, there are seemingly a LOT of people that make decisions based on their political fealties, and like/dislike what they are told by those that steer their particular political ilk. It's always nice to see people who break the mold and do some things that are counter to the belief system of their assigned political choice; a "liberal" who hunts deer, a "conservative" who drives an EV, etc. That gives me hope that we might be able to ditch these two polarizing political factions and return to a Centrist system, where the other people aren't enemies, but just do some things that you don't do, and vice versa. Currently, I look at people who enjoy seafood as some sort of pariahs that need to be purged from the earth, because I hate seafood.
LOL so it's a grift to make sure it doesn't fold up like a tin can in an accident.

You make a good point - and I’m not sure the sales numbers I pulled from the internet are close to being accurate.

But for discussion on a forum, where folks are not easily hoodwinked, the numbers are a starting point for contemplation?

Here you go bud, learn all about the exploding Chinese EVs, Lithium-ion batteries have existed for awhile but the volatility & cost of making them safe made automakers stay away until CAFE fuel efficiency gave no other option.

But China loves ignore unenforced vehicle safety standards, you can get your own luxury appointed freeway bomb, be 1 of 21,000 families cooked to death in cheap Chinese EVs, save money on cooling systems & fire-protection armor & makes lighter EV
Only problem is very explosive hot fire cook your family if hit

The Chinese demand for EV’s is huge. They do fine without selling to the USA.

Copying the shape of the Maverick instead of the Cyber Truck was a good move:)
Chinese folks don’t buy stuff from TEMU or Wish. They know better?

They do buy a whole lot of EVs though. Mega Market for EVs.

Chinese will buy more EVs this year than the total USA consumption of all vehicles - ICE, Hybrid, EVs, etc.

They’ll probably sell more EV pickups than all of Ford soon enough.

Of course I’d rather have my little Maverick:)

And then the very limited worlds supply of lithium runs out.
Did you know there is not enough lithium world wide to even replace only the United States gasoline cars ?
Long before lithium "runs out" it's price will increase to the point that other battery types will become economically feasible. Not to mention things like oil wells bring other things to surface which may not be used due to the production limits under the lease. One is natural gas, helium, methane, etc if the lease is for oil only. Lots of which is flared as waste because it cannot be used and paid for under the lease. Some leases permit the gas to be liquified and included in production or separated and produced into a separate pipeline (an oil & gas production lease). Existing leases can be ratified to include other things such as lithium with additional payments. It's possible that sellers in the past held ownership in oil or gas or both or all minerals, etc. so ownership of whatever minerals are desired would have to be determined and then negotiated. Brine containing lithium may have to be reinjected into the ground.

The Hilux High-Body (like a Tacoma) has had a Chinese knockoff “The Hunter” on the market for a while now. In 2024 they started ext range EV and hybrid. Seen any in the states?
BTW- these Chinese companies need to hire a westerner so the vehicle names improve. The Hunter is a stereotype of a perceived pickup owner. And calling a hatchback the “Go-Fast” doesn’t mean it’s a hot-hatch (although maybe faster than the golf carts with the same name).

Add ~which includes decision making through ignorance as to what and where materials come from around the world.
That do become part of the worlds market of important tools, machines, clothes, medical equipment, food, our cel phones!!!
Yep and the hospital people are born in! Etc >>>>>

In the very same house they live.
The beer they drink.
The tires they roll with.
Yep even American brands that are built with foreign materials built in USA with foreign material.
very few people on this forum could afford a truly "100% made in Merkuh" vehicle, if that's even possible to make. Look at us, all driving Hecho in Mexico pickups.

Tesla is 99% American made, even the circuitry, just not the tires.
In Texas I think.

I know Tesla is the Most Merkun brand, but I wonder what is considered "made in america". If foreign sourced raw materials and components are assembled in Merkuh, does that count?

There's a short novella called "Final Blackout" by Saint (Pope?) L Ron Hubbard in 1948 that features a future in Europe where the USA said "F U" to the rest of the world and let them work on their own problems, pulling up the drawbridge and having no trade or other influence with the rest of the world. I think that's the scenario a lot of people picture when "made in america" is on the label, but in reality it's usually "assembled in america". Years ago I read that Merkuh can't/doesn't even make it's own bullets. There were something like 8-10 steps including mining, refining, etc. from raw material to finished product, and more than half the steps were not even done anywhere in Merkuh anymore, cuz low profits for those steps. That may have changed since then.

Anyway, the big picture is the interdependency on global trade to make stuff bigger, cheaper, faster etc. than relying on a single source. It's not a political statement, just a cold hard economic fact. I think Merkuh has enough raw materials and factories and low-wage labor to make about anything in-country, but it costs more, sometimes a LOT more, than sourcing some materials and steps from other countries. When you realize that minimum wage in Merkuh is a middle or even upper-middle class income in many other countries, it makes sense why stuff is made offshore by Merkun companies. OMG something just popped in my head; can you imagine the turmoil and upheaval if there was a GLOBAL minimum wage?!

Funny! If you look at where the components come from, its much less than 50%. The U.S. does not have lithium mines for example.

I think that group is down to only one cruise ship “The Freewinds”. Not made in USA, registered in Panama, spends lots of time in Curacao and is currently in Aruba. I have co-workers that were part of Scientology and were very nice people, but they were not high enough on the pyramid to take ride.
but I get your point🤔.

We are no longer a production nation, we are a consumer nation.
Proven by people who buy a new Maverick every couple of years. Like toyz. :XD
