Anyone try swapping out their standard rear window with a sliding unit (manual or powered)? I bought my 2022 used so not an option.
I’d really like to have that feature for hauling anything narrow but longer than five and a half feet. I hate putting the tailgate down and tying a red flag on trim boards. Also everyone who sees that thinks: “should have bought a big boy truck” (I hate those people)!
Wonder if I could find one in a salvage yard?!?

Greg,
Salvage yards are always an option.
Here's a post from somebody who had his local glass shop install his that he bought. Only charged $75

Ford Maverick Upgrade rear window to manual sliding rear window? 20251101_072520

I know there has been several posts about both power and Manual rear sliding glass option for the Maverick and whether It’s useful or practical or not. In my case I purchased a 22 Maverick XL brand new and have been doing some modifications to my liking - I liked the idea of a rear sliding glass since I occasionally transport my 80 pound yellow lab in the back and she likes to peek through and check on us. The grandkids sit in the back and it’s nice to lower the front windows and open the rear slider for a cross breeze they seem to like that / I saw a few used sliders on eBay, both power and manual for what still seemed like a pretty good premium.

I found this aftermarket slider from national auto glass direct located in south El Monte, California - it was $403 with free shipping - it’s identical and design to the OEM factory glass but the center glass is approximately 2 inches wider, which was fine by me since the OEM is so tiny- The rear view from inside is perfectly fine/ Your local glass guy charged me $75 for the removal and installation. I boxed up and saved my old glass just in case. I hope some of you guys find this useful -

I bought the window from National Auto Glass Direct for a XL (on sale - $350.00/shipped). Item was as described and OEM spec'd fit.

Went to several Autoglass replacement companies and they wouldn't take/do the work unless I bought their glass. They claimed they couldn't guarantee the work using someone else's glass.

I finally found a reputable (come-to-your-home-and-do) the install guy and I had the glass installed for $200.00. The installer supplied all needed products (glue, tools, etc.) and did a good job.

A few months later everything is well, no leaks, no rattles, no chips, no extra sound, etc.

Looking back - just my personal opinion - I kind of wasted $550.00 bucks. I get some use out of it but not enough to justify the expense. Also, if the vehicle is sold/traded, that is an unrecoverable cost.

l bought an aftermarket through Amazon. eBay also sold the same thing from the same suppliers. I then had to find a local glass company to install. Many won’t unless they supply the glass. As far as I can tell everything is just like factory installed except the opening is larger than the OEM. Others complained about the OEM. Safelite quoted around $900 for this and buying my own glass I saved a couple hundred.

Since I had the sliding rear window in the 2004 F250 I had before the Maverick XL, I had some interest in doing this, but I had no idea the opening was so tiny. The F250 slider was basically two half window panes in adjacent tracks with a vertical seal between panes. One half was fixed and the other slid. You didn't quite get a 50% opening at maximum, but it was close. I wonder if the same kind of window mechanism could be retrofitted to the Maverick. Probably not.
