Did you consider getting a 12v fan, clipping it onto the rear edge of the center console, and pointing it at the back window? Surely there is enough hot air in the front seats to travel the few feet back and keep the rear window from fogging up. You might direct the center vents directly towards the fan to insure it had a good supply of conditioned air.
Using fans was a very common way to clear windshields of condensation, etc, and should still work pretty well. Maybe get someone who can created printable designs to come up with a base to hold the fan in place.
When JC Whitney and Warshawski & Co was in business, you could order the electric heating devices. I think there were two versions, one with a clear plastic 'carrier', the other where the conductors were put onto the rear glass the same way a decal is applied. I had that style, but OEM, on a Pinto wagon, used in IN, OH, and CO, and really had few instances where it was needed. I likely would still have gotten it if it was an option.

Oh my gosh names from the past JC Whitney and Warshawski & Co.
JC Whitney is still in business, kind of, having successfully relaunched as a lifestyle destination and integrated into car parts.com. Now operating under carparts.com JC Whitney offers performance parts and accessories, content, and a lifestyle brand experience for automotive enthusiasts through its website and print magazine

As a subscriber, I was recently informed of the discontinuation of their magazine and refunded any undistributed copy funds. Seems that maybe they are not all that successful, I really don't know.
