After hearing a sudden noise, and closing the door felt weird, I did a google search.

Pointed me to looking close at the welds and joint at the door. Welp, that’s a crack?

Bought about 4 years ago, and has about 77k miles.

Any suggestions? Will the dealer repair/replace it?

Saw some posts related to the Ford Escapes having a similar issue.

My Ford Platinum Level extended warranty covers everything but some exclusions….welds are one of the exclusions.

I’m sure someone can repair it - not sure who or what the cost will be. Maybe if you get t-boned there your vehicle insurance would cover it…but I wouldn’t recommend that route!

I have scheduled a drop off for this coming Monday at a local Service Center.

Back when I bought the truck, I remembered I got some extended warranty and wasn't sure, and I did. I had purchased the PremiumCARE Extended Service Plan. Not sure if this will be covered, and she wasn't either. Might be out a diagnostic check cost.

I've got a neighbor that works as a welder, and showed the cracks to him last night, so if it isn't, he and I will work something out. He also suggested I just try and remove the Door Check to avoid anymore damage. May do that as well, because I rolled down the window this morning, and something has shifted inside and it was slow to move. So super fun.

Just out of curiosity, where are you located? I'm wondering if this is a climate thing. For example, an area that uses a lot road salt.

If it's corrosion from moisture, where does it get in? The window?

If it's a design flaw, we all might be heading towards this.

I am located in South Texas. Not a lot of road salt, but plenty of moisture in the air here on the coast. I don't think its a rust issue, as the spot welds are painted over and the crack that is there was too.

I am leaning real hard to think this is a problem more people are about to have. Welds shouldn't just pop off like they appear too, and there are a couple other posts on the forum about the issue.

Each has varying about of support from the Service Center, but some are positive and the dealer has to do this on their dime as this is probably a defect from the factory.

The Mavericks are also built on the same platform as the Ford Escapes (and the Bronco Sport too), and the Escape already has a service advisory for this specific issues dating back to 2020. It is the Customer Satisfaction Program 23B56.

I had a bicycle shop in San Jose Ca. Many of my customers from coastal Santa Cruz had nasty cases of galvanic corrosion on their bicycles from being exposed to ocean salt air. Rust on steel and galvanic corrosion where steel & aluminum connected.
