I have had my 25 AWD Hybrid for 5 or so months now and it's started making a fairly loud thump or thunking noise that sounds like it's coming from the rear when I'm slowing down (braking). Like clockwork the thud (thump) happens when I slow down and hit 13 mph. The noise seems to be louder and more pronounced when I'm slowing down from say 45 or 50 mph as opposed to say 25 -30 mph but the noise happens almost every time. Has anyone else experienced this noise and if so were you able to figure out it's cause?

Also if I turn out traction control after before I start driving the noise magically disappears. This was also the case for the two others users that indicated they have this issue in the thread linked below.

I did find another thread where two members mentioned they have the noise but neither member seems to be active here on Maverick Truck Club so not sure if they were able to figure out the cause and get it fixed. Here is a thread where it's talked about a little bit:

https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/2025-hybrid-awd-thud-noise-when-decelerating.62929/

Members @ScoobyMateo and @Mox4615 both mentioned they had the issue but no follow up.

I also saw these on a facebook maverick thread where this person has the issue with their 25 AWD Hybrid but again not seeing a resolution:

Yeah I get this, too. I have no idea what it could be, might try to bring it to the dealership but I know it'll be a goose chase.

Very interesting that you are having the same issue. I did just edit my post as I forgot to mention that if I turn off traction control before driving the noise magically goes away. This was also the case for the two other members in the thread I linked too. Have you tried turning out TC and seeing if that's the case for you too?

OP here - just wanted to add that I've come across 5 different cases online including mine which sound like the same issue I'm having with my truck and all of them have been Mavericks with AWD. I'm thinking somethings going on with the rear differential? It's interesting that when you turn off the traction control and noise magically disappears but there has to be a common issue going on with these handful of trucks. It sounds like the person who posted about their noise on a Facebook Maverick board took their truck to two different dealers who claimed they couldn't hear the noise. If this person's truck makes the same noise as mine there is no way these dealers couldn't hear the noise as I can even with the radio up moderately.

My 24 Lariat awd does the same thing, also at 13 mph. Dealer tech test drove it with me in pass. seat and at first he said he couldn't hear it but felt it. He ran my vin and said no issues were mentioned. I drove it with tc off and like another person said, the thump magically disappeared. Back to the dealer I go.

So traction control off disengaging the rear, or setting higher limit to usage that coasting down at about 13 perhaps disengages.

Here's a test - Slippery mode.
Kinda wondering if you engage that mode, does that override TC being disabled, probably not.

That's going to change when the rear is included, and perhaps a different speed line on coast down.

Be aware you'll need more room to coast!

Thanks for the reply and please let us know if your able to figure out what the issue is. The more I poke around the more folks I find that are having this issue so there is something to it that's for sure. I think your the second 24 Maverick I've come across with the issue at the rest I've seen have been 2025's (mine included).

Honestly I only cruise around in normal mode in my 25 AWD Hybrid but when I can remember (LOL) I'll put it in slippery mode and see if I can still hear the cluck, thud or thunk:)

Same thing happens with mine. It doesn't sound concerning to me necessarily though, but it would be nice to know what is happening.

So yours happens around the 13mph mark too when braking? Also do you recall if yours made the noise when it was new? I'm 99% sure mine did not make the noise when I first got it. Honestly I think my noise might be getting louder or I'm just listening for it more and it's making me crazy:)

Hopefully someone figures out what the heck is going on as I don't think this noise is normal at all. I am loving the truck otherwise though.

Yes, it happens when braking just as you described. I thought it might have been gas in the gas tank sloshing, but I don't think so.

Mine only has 3,000ish miles on it. I can't remember if the noise always happened.

I'm guessing it's re-engaging the traction control or has something to do with the AWD? Either way, I'm not terribly concerned personally and am glad I'm in the same boat as you too!

I’m having the same issue in my 2024. Took it to a dealer, they “didn’t hear it”. It doesn’t happen in sport mode or with traction control off

2024 2.0 XLT here and I have the “thud” I thought it was something rolling under the back seat. Curious to know if anyone finds out.

Well that's disappointing that your dealer didn't hear the noise. Do you happen to know if you've had it since brand new?

Would you and @bighouse kindly take my pool which I will link below? Also there is some pretty good discussion in that thread as well if your interested:
