I think the OEM engine cover is mostly for aero, cleanliness, and probably a bit of noise damping.
I'm not relying on it for any skid or engine protection in the rocks by any means.
It is a bit of a faff when doing an oil change, but the rest of the time I appreciate it for what it does.

It does have a nifty air scoop aimed up at the turbo / exhaust manifold. Not sure what it aims at in the Hybrid:)

Yep, my Focus had similar ducting/venting to keep air moving under/over/through it.

Our Maverick’s also have a vent under rear passenger door to let heat escape:)

Note the tow hooks in his pics. He has an FX4, and they have a steel skid plate, not an aero splash shield. I have an FX4 as well, and trust me, you can rely on it for protection. The skid plate is heavy and has fewer attachment points, but bolts to the subframe. It's not torx screwed into plastic nuts or clips like the shield.

Are you using a Baldwin B2 @Jalopy Technology? I've been thinking of switching to the same filter or some other FL-1 equivalent since I have to keep them in stock, but Im not fond of the low 8 PSI bypass valve pressure.

Where - under rear passenger door near the muffler

How - laying on my back

What it proves - that I have a tendency to drift off topic oops.
Ok, nobody please come back and say OCD detected ☺but I did go out and take a look, now I see, thanks ‘Chops’ !
