That would do it.

I always change mine hot. It's good to stir up the shit that's settled at the bottom of the pan into suspension before you drain it. It also allows more of the used oil to drain out since hot oil is at a lower viscosity and flows better.
I agree. Takes a bit of practice to drain the oil without having it splash around, but once you get decently good, getting burned by oil isn't much of a concern so much as "is the oil hot enough"?

I'd say the metal flakes are normal. I'm glad you changed the oil close to 1000 mi. I've had 3 new cars so far, a Subaru STI, a Corolla Hybrid and the Hybrid Mav and all 3 showed metal flakes on the 1st and 2nd oil changes. Imagine the people not doing their 1st oil change till they hit 10k mi 😅

Break In Oil Smelled of Gasoline.

And also had just a couple of tiny slivers of steel on magnet. This is normal right? Slivers definitely - the whiff of gas on the oil cap wasn’t expected though.
Anyway, a fun first oil change. 930 miles, 90% oil life. Rhino Ramps gave plenty of clearance.

The underside cover is an engineering marvel with the scoops and ridges. Came off & back on easily with a T25 torx bit. I was thinking of getting a Rival to make oil changes easier…Nope! Get the Rival if you want skid protection - but oil change & air flow advantages go to OEM!

edit - the OEM factory installed oil filterdid was removable by a strong grip/hand. Perfect torque. The scoop aimed at the underside exhaust & turbo was cool!
I did my first oil change at 5000 miles per fords recommendation. No slivers or gas smell.

The 25'S have a different 2 Litre , has both direct injection and muti port fuel injection, so there should be no smell of gas. I change the engine oil every 6 months in my Ecoboost to help prevent carbon buildup on the valves.

Fuel dilution attributed to direct injection's poor vaporization isn't fully eliminated by adding port injection but does help. It also doesn't eliminate intake valve deposits that are attributed to direct injection. Fuel delivery from the port injectors represents 5-10 percent of overall fuel delivery in these dual systems, and DI gets the rest. Neither of those improvements are the actual reason manufacturers are switching to the dual systems. The real reason is what drives most change in ICE these days: efficiency.

You don't have to imagine, people do it. And have posted here.. Esp. Hybrid owners who think their immune because 'not turbo'.
Its still an ICE after all...not like those hybrids don't also use metal engines and parts. I think its pretty silly to NOT change oil earlier on ANY new engine. Regardless of how exotic your metals and oil are.

Turbo'd applications I have even more concern for due to the oil passages and screens throughout ..and absolutely should be done sooner.

I will do my 2nd early as well. (like ~3k early) And then switch to every ~4-5k (or 6 months) after that.

I agree - SHOULD be no smell of gas. That is why I asked the question because there WAS the smell of gas.

I also agree the new 2.0 EB has a more complex fuel delivery system. I have also read of fuel delivery systems problems on various models using the new 1.5 and 2.0 EB’s.

I assuming my gas smell was due to improper engine warm up before the oil change - not a fuel delivery issue. But I will be vigilant so I don’t make an ass out of me & Tbone:)
