This fellow, Lake Speed Jr., is a certified tribologist, or oil/lubrication expert. For those who a: believe the factories still use "breakin oil" and b: who believe the factory change intervals are written in stone, this is a must-watch. He is an oil designer with/for Driven Racing. He is a little long winded, but you can get the gist of what he is saying.
I changed mine (hybrid) at 1000 miles, and there was some junk there, as he promised. The next one will be at 5000 miles, and then the change interval I will use will be more clear.

Honestly if it makes you feel better... I dont see why not. I am gonna stick to every 4,000 Miles or 6 months.

Unless you drive virtually all highway miles, the gasoline engine in your Hybrid hasn't run anywhere close to 5K miles, when the ODO says 5,000. Unless you like to waste money, let the Oil Life Monitor tell you when it's time to change your Hybrid truck's oil. It takes into consideration length of time, what kind of driving you do and how many miles are actually on the ICE, among other things.

Worth my time watching the video? Nope.
If the Ford Engineers don't better than some random Youtuber, we're all in trouble.

If you intend to keep your Maverick past the warranty it’s not advisable to follow the oil life monitor. In the US vehicle manufacturers are marketing extended maintenance intervals and Ford is no different. They don’t necessarily have your best interest in mind when programming oil life monitors. They only care if it lasts as long as the warranty. Oil is cheap engines aren’t. I’ll do 5k oil changes and ignore the monitor.

Yeah it's funny how some people get so up in arms about an oil change & always say "If you want to waste money than go ahead". Then there's mechanics that have a youtube channel that exclusively work on Fords (ecoboost) and they show engines that suffered from going by those oil life monitors.

Since the Hybrid reports at the end of each trip the Total miles and Elec-only miles - is there an easy way without Forscan to get that info? Maybe it even tracks engine run-time...

Then at least the engine only miles can be known and acted upon.
I've got my custom maintenance log ready for total and engine miles. Not realizing until this morning the Trip info doesn't contain enough info.

I've enjoyed AMD the Car Care Nut for Toyota - and as a fan boy if even he says do an after break-in 1000 mile initial change if you want to keep it long term - I think good advice.
Even he admits manufacturer only trying to get you past the warranty period, with these new schedules to make it sound like better equipment and ease of use.

ITs not a question how much the engineers know. The EPA is pressuring climate change BS on everybody and everything.
Some folks say well the hybrid engine doesn't get used all of the time so mileage doesn't reflect the little use. And that is exactly the problem; all engines will pass some gas into the oil, but a typical engine will get hot and most of that gas is evaporated out. The colder the engine the more gas is absorbed by the oil; if you think about it, the hybrid all too often never gets hot if it isn't running much. Oil dilution is the biggest problem then, but hey, change when you feel like it.
