Despite other compromises, the XL Hybrid is the most fuel efficient vehicle I've ever owned. I averaged about 25mpg with my '03 Sprinter, and 28mpg with my '88 Samurai. AND, I can haul some stuff in the open bed!

My Maverick is my third new vehicle. Came from owning a 2005 Ford Ranger 3.0 auto that got 20mpg brand new and 20mpg with 288,000 miles on it when I sold it for $3500 last month. I put $2500 down and my work paid the rest of the $19k selling price. Made $1,000 after 20 years. Now if the Mav can last 20 years I'll be thrilled. Mav sure has alot of fun stuff in it and potentially 40mpg (only at 35mpg at 2,000 miles so far). I'm turning 70. And I still have my first new car 1985 Mustang GT 5.0 5 speed with 27,000 original miles.

I have owned over 100 vehicles so far. I cannot say my 2024 XL Hybrid is the "best", but it certainly is in the top 3. My previous DD was a 2014 Prius "C" that i bought used in 2016 with 22K miles for $13K. I drove it until my Maverick arrived December 2023 and it had nearly 100K on it by then. I was easily getting 60 MPG. In the entire time i had it, the only things i spent money on were a set of tires, front pads and rotors at 65K, and oil changes. My son hit a deer and totaled his 2015 Sentra Right before my Mav came in. My Toyota still booked at over $11K (i was going to trade it in on the Mav). He got $12.5K from insurance and offered me $9K for my Toyota, which i was fine with. (dealer had offered 10K trade in). He now has well over 100K miles on it and it's still going strong. That has to also be in my top 3. My favorite was my 1983 VW GTi that i bought new in 1983 and kept for 20 years. I brought my first son home from the hospital in that GTi and he drove iot his first year of college. But i am thrilled with my Maverick, and bought a 10 year service contract from Granger for it.

The Mav is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Age 68 here. Between the MPG, the ride (came from an Escape) and the utility for me no vehicle comes close.
age 65, agreed, best vehicle I've owned.
not the best value, as a good used car like all my previous cars ;-) is probably a better value.. but ask me in 20 years, says he hopefully.

NO! Best value? Any vehicle purchased post COVID is terrible value. My first car was a 2000 brand new Honda Civic EX for $14,000 OTD. I wish I still had that car. That's $26,000 in today's market.

...on second thought, Same make and model in 2025 is $28,000. Hmm... I guess inflation is keeping up with the times. I wish my salary would follow suit.

Correct facts! The last year of any American production car with a Holley and only on the 5 speed. Sorry, this is the only shot of it on my pc from 2007. It is still in that spot with the cover on it. Our daughter uncovered it last year to start driving it, since her '85 GT Fiero is not a great daily driver. I have a photo of my girlfriend (now wife) from the late 80's with her '87 GT 5.0 and my '85 GT parked on my front lawn, right before she gave her GT to my mom and got a new '90 Explorer Sport.
SIDENOTE: On BAT today a 1985 Mustang GT T-Top hatch sold for $31k with 46k miles. My '85 has 27k original, since I bought it new in Oct '84. I'll look for the other photo tommorrow.

this is one of the best Forum questions that have come up. It has generated a lot of interesting ideas. Here is one, perhaps. Having owned many vehicles over these 50 plus years (and perhaps 3/4 of them Fords of one type or another). I remember, as some of you old timers might, as well that, Ford corporate slogan in the early 1970's was "Ford has a better Idea". This was absolute advertising B.S. In fact, I say that the best Fords of that time were very rarely advertised at all. My Cortina GT was a great driving car, which I tried to drive to death. This car was replaced by the Pinto. Not really a great Idea. Same thing with Ford Probe in the 90's. Both of these vehicles which Ford really did not want to support and became difficult to own. In the first case it was an English import, and with the Probe it was a complicated history, but I will tell you that I had some difficulty with replacement parts after a time..
With Fords decision 3 or 4 years ago to drop Focus and Fusion, I thought at that time, it was either stupid or desperate and perhaps both. I will say now that this "Better Idea" slogan would be much more appropriate now in promoting the capabilities of the Mavericks Hybrid system. I think there will be continued resistance to full EV.
I think ev resistance will gradually decrease as price parity is reached and range anxiety is adequately addressed. The Hybrids with E-CVTs already are embraced by those of us who don't really care what a vehicle sounds like when it's accelerating 😅

Obviously we should start our own thread for those of us that weren't allowed to comment but...

I wish this was the best vehicle I've ever owned, because it very easily could be. The Maverick is just a perfect fit for my lifestyle and for what I need in a vehicle. It's just too bad it was put together so cheaply. And yes, I'm aware of the balance of cost vs quality and all of that, but the number of recalls and now my collection of broken sensors is wearing thin on me in a hurry. If my Maverick dropped dead tomorrow I'm not sure I wouldn't buy another one, which is unfortunate because it's such a good design, I'm just tired of fixing stupid shit on it that should never have failed in the 3 years I've owned it.
Sorry that your experience has been so negative. At our dealership, the main reason we see Mavericks is to have recalls performed. We see relatively few other repairs. We've had to replace one of two rear differentials, a window switch here and there. And a few hybrids had the battery drain issue. But nothing else really stands out. That's true for the hybrid and Ecoboost. They seem even more reliable than the escape they're based on. So I don't know if the owners in our area are just fortunate. Or if you got a lemon. Again I wish you'd had a better experience.

I was on another Website [Yellow Bullet] and some of the Guys on there work at Ford Dealerships. And they said the same thing that they don't see Mavericks in for much more than Oil Changes Tire Rotations and other little things.

Hey, the Vega ran pretty good for the couple of years I had it... :like: Even though I was a teenager, I didn't push it very hard. By the late '70s, I had moved onto some real clunkers...
You got the good one. 😂 . The 2 Qts of oil per tank of gas was the more common scenario. But my dad had a customer that actually had an early Vega with the original engine. . But I think he was one of just a few.

It’s just a truck that i never thought i would ever pay that much for.

I retired from AHMC and part of the employee perks was an open end lease. I leased a Honda, Acura car or truck every year for 40 yrs. Honda paid all the insurance and maintenance. I ordered a new vehicle every 10 mths. Hell my kids drove a new car to school every year.

I sold my 70’s T/A, 55 studebaker, 56 f100. 63 Falcon vert… just to old now

Now I gotta say the Mav is my only vehicle other than my Honda Chopper and I love it.
