Arizona Department of Transportation advice if stuck in a dust storm:I've been considering using the bed light housings and adding emergency vehicle type wig-wag Amber lights that would be activated using the emergency blinker circuit. Bed light use preserved, adding LED COB lights to the housing.
Having driven through the hills of Pennsylvania and the notorious fog, Such lighting could only add to visibility when conditions are not great. In fact, I drove through a thunderstorm that was showing as purple on the radar yesterday and wished I had done the mod. Visibility was incredibly poor and the weather app on my phone popped a warning that it had detected I was driving through extremely poor conditions and it suggested I pull over and wait for the storm to pass.
SO...
If such a mod was reasonably easy to install and not ridiculously priced, would you do it?
“- **Pull Off the Road Safely**: Do not wait until visibility is poor. Pull off the roadway as soon as possible, completely exiting the highway if you can.
- **Avoid Stopping in Travel or Emergency Lanes**: Find a safe place to pull completely off the paved portion of the roadway.
“ **Turn Off All Lights**: Once stopped, turn off all vehicle lights, including emergency flashers, to prevent other drivers from using your lights as a guide and potentially crashing into your vehicle.
- **Set Emergency Brake**: Engage your emergency brake and keep your foot off the brake pedal.
- **Stay in the Vehicle**: Remain inside with your seatbelt buckled until the storm passes.”
The turn off all lights seems counterintuitive to me, but that is their professional advice.
