Thoughts on this idea that's been burning a hole in my brain.

I've been considering using the bed light housings and adding emergency vehicle type wig-wag Amber lights that would be activated using the emergency blinker circuit. Bed light use preserved, adding LED COB lights to the housing.
Having driven through the hills of Pennsylvania and the notorious fog, Such lighting could only add to visibility when conditions are not great. In fact, I drove through a thunderstorm that was showing as purple on the radar yesterday and wished I had done the mod. Visibility was incredibly poor and the weather app on my phone popped a warning that it had detected I was driving through extremely poor conditions and it suggested I pull over and wait for the storm to pass.

SO...
If such a mod was reasonably easy to install and not ridiculously priced, would you do it?
Arizona Department of Transportation advice if stuck in a dust storm:

“- **Pull Off the Road Safely**: Do not wait until visibility is poor. Pull off the roadway as soon as possible, completely exiting the highway if you can.

- **Avoid Stopping in Travel or Emergency Lanes**: Find a safe place to pull completely off the paved portion of the roadway.

“ **Turn Off All Lights**: Once stopped, turn off all vehicle lights, including emergency flashers, to prevent other drivers from using your lights as a guide and potentially crashing into your vehicle.

- **Set Emergency Brake**: Engage your emergency brake and keep your foot off the brake pedal.

- **Stay in the Vehicle**: Remain inside with your seatbelt buckled until the storm passes.”

The turn off all lights seems counterintuitive to me, but that is their professional advice.

This is unfortunately quite common. People have a flat, pull over, and a drunk "follows" them.
I saw a YouTube recently about off-road vehicles using a similar type of light. I think they called them chase lights. The dust off-roading can be bad. Texas won't let you use flashing Amber unless you're in certain industries, but turn signals can be yellow or Amber, not just red. That said, if you are driving in limited visibility, you're not likely to get a ticket for the lights. But if the visibility is that bad, why are you driving? I'm thinking of doing yellow turn signals, then for bad conditions that I feel I have to drive in, I can just turn on the flashers.

You have to be careful about having "wig-wag" type flashing lights on vehicles that are not commercial or police cars. Check with your state laws, before you try it.

I am wondering if there is some sort of yellow strobe light bulb that would replace the cargo lamps next to the 3rd brake light, that way you would just have to push the cargo lamp button to activate them.

I thought about that.

But I think they come on for 30 seconds to 3 minutes every time you park.

I have a nice led magnetic trouble light that has a white light or flashing red light. Rechargeable and will stick to the tailgate nicely. Done.

Would you feel comfortable using the hazard flashers in those low visibility conditions ....?
Isn't that what most truckers do ....?
I do and did. But those flashers on other vehicles tend to disappear when the other vehicles are not very far in front of us.

My thoughts exactly. LED strips added to the cargo housings.
