I have seen several Mavs recently that NEED this mod done, looks unfinished without the cover in place!
I just measured and cut, got the area for the 4pin off slightly, but you have to really look to see it.
Thanks to all for starting this mod, makes a big difference in the looks of the rear hitch area.

If you're adventurous you "can" leave the piece above the hitch. It just makes assembly a lot more of a pain in the ass.

Certainly a cosmetic upgrade, but looks like it would get in the way of the power washer. That's a salty area in the winter and I want to be able to spray it out easy. Much like the tailgate hole cover, it will probably invite rust indirectly. Not a truck part, IMO.

Best tip i read from previous related threads re install of this was to tape cover up around hitch and top edge to avoid scratches in cover when forcing it in around/behind the hitch. Tight fit.

While I have seen several articles modifying a hitch cover to fit the gap on Mavericks with a trailer hitch. I have noticed that the dimensions that have been shared are different from one to the other. This leads me to believe that the hitch installation has an exceptional amount of tolerance and would cause inconsistent location dimensions. Attached are two PDF files, a template and instructions for making and installing this modification.

Notes: If you do not follow his directions, completely, for getting enough bumper flexibility and don't remove the trailer connector, you need to provide wider openings to allow shifting the plate from side to side to get the mounting lip underneath the bumper.

Thanks @3D Pro , Finally did this mod today.

I purchased my trailer hitch blank plate off Amazon for 23.00, came in a clear package inside a karparts 360 box. I used Mark's template layout, and it worked out perfectly for me. I used a Dremel with ocilating tool for cutting, also used a file to smooth out the edges.

Marks suggestions for removing the 3 bolts on the lower right and left on the bottom of the bumper made insertiing the cutout so damn easy. I've read other threads on this topic and many bitched how much they struggled to get the cover into its position. Removing those 6 bolts made it so damn easy to position and snap into the bumper cutout slots.

Took me about a hour to complete and install, I also used some oem style push pin fasteners on the underside of the cutout to secure to the bumper utilizing the predrilled holes on the bumper and cutout cover.

If you lived close, I'd give you a handful. I have 4 bags of different sizes & types, they were included when I purchased a trim remover tool off of Amazon.
