I believe the $1500 is only for the food stamp editions (XL/XLT). Those trim models have an older version of the sync system compared to the Lariat model.

Not all Lariats have Sync 3; '22 & '23 without Luxury Pkg have the Connected Touch Radio as well.

I asked that the first day it was posted, and it wasn't answered that I saw.

but yes, I'm very confident that sync4 updates are checked against vehicle vin. if that vin didn't have sync4, you don't get an update.

someday this could be an issue with carplay or android auto. if it has current firmware right now - if it's a new sync4 unit - no problem. if it's running code from when sync4 first came out back in 2019 that seems like it could be an issue sooner than expected.

I was just answering your question. Do you think Ford is going to update Connected Audio any more? I bet not, if they consider the backup camera recall resolved. Whatever code it's on now is probably the end IMHO.

What about ios updates which happen all the time? One could render carplay inoperable.

they're much smarter than that. it's infeasible to update all cars every IOS update, so they carefully regression test. same with android auto.

don't know about carplay, but google f's it up now and then, but they fix it a release later. the last major AA blunder was when they were first releasing the 3/2 pane UI that is now standard 2 years ago.

Damn, I just saw it on their website! I'm glad I ordered it before the price shot up.

You got it at what I thought was a pretty reasonable price for the product! With this increase, I would definitely recommend against people buying it and just sourcing the parts themselves from EBay. Maybe just buy the harness from them if you’re not comfortable with the wiring portion.

For reference, when I did this exact project the parts in total costed me $750. I don’t think this product is worth the almost double price for the 12” Sync 3 to 4 variant.

Wouldn't bother me.
I have never updated my 2022 Sync 3 system, works great.

Though if I was going to do this upgrade I would just get a $100-$150 APIm and the transit screen for around $250-$300, plus the harness.

I also felt it was reasonably priced. I don't think I would have went ahead with the purchase if it was $1500.
