I was following my spouse who was driving the Maverick. I was in the Toyota. My phone is linked to both vehicles.

I made a call in the Toyota on my phone that was with me.... The Maverick in front of me hyjacked the call and my spouse was surprised to be speaking to our friend that he did not call.

Has this happened to anyone else?

What can we do to keep this from happening in the future if we are following one another?

Yes. Happend to me one time.

Bluetooth can sometimes reach up to 150 feet in an unobstructed straight line. That's about 8 car lengths.

Just leave more space!

Wow just learned this from Google AI:

Bluetooth 5.0 and higher can extend this range, potentially reaching up to 800 feet (240 meters) in ideal conditions.

Using wireless (blue tooth) simply plug in to the usb in the vehicle you are using and shut off blue tooth on your phone.

Sounds like it's programmed to Data Mine.

Were you using Bluetooth in the Toyota when you placed the call? Because I've never heard of Bluetooth grabbing more than one device, Bluetooth is one to one, once it's paired to a device you can't pair to another device until the first connection is disconnected.

From AI.....
pair with and connect to multiple devices simultaneously, but only one can be actively streaming audio at a time. While you can connect to multiple devices, you typically need to choose which one is actively playing audio or performing other actions.

I was following my wife in her bronco and suddenly Limp Bizkit was blasting me from the stereo. Then I understood Why she was driving the way she was.

Since we just purchased the Maverick, I had not yet paired my spouses phone. Did that today and made it first connected device. Maybe that will solve the problem... waiting to see what happens.

I would make sure you pair each phone to each vehicle, once either of you gets into each vehicle, that respective phone will pair with that vehicle, I think that will prevent another connection to that vehicle, (until such time as a phone is disconnected).

I once had my Garmin gps grab my phone call as I was walking to the parking lot. Suddenly my call jumped to the speaker phone on the Garmin inside my locked car. I could hear a voice inside the locked car. I had to hit the Bluetooth on the cell to get my call back after 15 seconds of confusion.
