Preaching to the choir brother. I walked out of a dealership that had a $1500 added "ceramic shield" coating already applied according to the salesman. It had rained prior to arriving at the dealer. I said the water didn't seem to roll of that ceramic and I wasn't paying for it. He said they do it to all their vehicles and wouldn't remove the cost or sell one without it. I said fine and drove off.
Dealer applied "ceramic" is generally not even a coating. Just like most of the dealer add on items, they use it to pull more money from the customer.

A good shop that applies a quality coating can be over $1K, but that is due to the extensive prep and polishing process beforehand. If anyone is charging $1K to just "apply the coating" is a scam artist.

There is nothing “ceramic” about these so labeled coatings…..they don’t provide any more scratch or UV protection than any good automotive wax.
On a second note……there is a lot of talk about “paint correction”.
All that means is that you clay bar, or even sand(very fine grade) the clear coat that covers the paint…..it does make for a nice smooth surface, but doesn’t touch the actual paint.
It’s all “snake oil” ………but it’s your money…….spend it like you wish.
I used cerakote on my maverick. Over a year later water still beads up and almost all dirt and mud just washes it off at the manual spray wash on Rinse.

That never happened back in the day when I used "wax." And I'll never use wax again.

I just got a 2025 Mav. Trying to decide whether or not to get a professionally applied ceramic coating. Is it worth it? Should I have this done? Anything I should know? What would be a good price? Thank you for your advice.
Just my 2 cents. I wax my vehicles once a year with pastewax.costs about 4 bucks.the paint on my 16 year old ram, bought new and a michigan trucks its entire life still looks new. Doing the same with our maverick. I think those ceramic coatings are upwards of 100 bucks!

This IMO is a great YouTube video discussing Ceramic coating options and comparing products. I applied the Turtle product.
And here is the issue with the industry. These are not coatings. These are sio2 based sealants or coating toppers. Just like these products, a coating has Si02, but at a much higher rate. These spray on products are great though, just do not expect to have the same durability as a coating.

Yes, I have it done on all my vehicles once a year. The 8 year old BMW looks like new.

You really are missing out if you don’t do it yourself. With the new spray on and much easier to apply coatings and the wealth of how to videos. I made up a by step list for a complete detail off of that combined information. I’m 68 years old and love doing it myself. It is an amazing and rewarding experience, just like building your Maverick adding the features and convenience items yourself. Why pay $1500 when I got everything I needed to completely detail my Mav for less than $500. And believe me you will do as good or better job than they will. I know it’s a personal choice, but when you see your reflection off of that great finish you just did, it’s a great feeling, but I guess that is based on if you are okay with the image you see🤣😉👍

I wasn't going to spend the big bucks to pay someone to do a ceramic coat, but after some research I grabbed some Adam's Polishes Advanced Graphene Ceramic Spray Coating along with their cleaner\prep spray Adam's Polishes Surface Prep and took a couple of days to coat my Mav.

It's only been a couple of weeks, but so far I've been happy with how the waters beads and sheets off the paint.
It's supposed to be good for 18+ months, so I'll wait and see how it does.
It had good reviews online.

Noone has mentioned PPFs, for 1500 , you can get the leading edges covered...about $3500 for the entire Mav, but "one and done". PPFs dont need to be waxed/sealed and are self repairing and WAY more protection than ANY sealant/coatings. I had my Stinger CC, but from a guy that does side jobs for $500. It was worth it for $500, but NO WAY for $1500...crazy

Just like waxes and sealants, I would apply a coating myself. If I was looking for even more protection, I would save more and opt for a ppf for sure, especially since you can change the color of the vehicle in the process.

Everyone has input on this. If you want to diy, about $100 will get you clay pad, microfiber, wash mitt and a bottle of ceramic wax. I use turtle wax ceramic with graphene. It is very easy and forgiving on streaks and process.

Always apply in the shade, I apply mine to a wet car and dry with a microfiber.

Here are some results.

I had my 2025 Lariat done by my dealer when it arrived and it has been about 6 months and the truck looks exactly like it did the day I picked it up. Snow, slush and rain and it does not have a speck of dust or any bug residue. I paid $500 and it is guaranteed for 7 years by my dealer. My wife is so impressed she is having it done to her car.
