Interesting. Early in my career I was surprised to find out similar iron contamination can also happen with stainless steels and cause staining and or paint adhesion issues. The fix is to dissolve the iron with acid, which is done in a timely manner that keeps the stainless from being attacked. Probably does not work as well with aluminum as the acid might tend to dissolve it as fast or faster than the iron.
Anybody know what alloy/temper is used for the hood skins?

Merely a suggestion…

I’ve seen this on paint of airplanes. Anodized coating on aluminum surfaces fails, causing blisters under the paint. Corrosion starts, making a powder like imperfection. Which causes blisters. To remedy, the area needs treatment, removing the corrosion by mechanic means, then apply an alodine coating, repainted.

I’m following this as well. When I first saw your photos I saw the texture as well and. I have carbon fiber wrap stripes on the same area. Did your wipers make contact with the hood edge. Some people lifted them up while cleaning under them and accidentally cycled the wipers and they collided with the hood edges. Not saying you did but the blue hood photo has small chips on the trailing edge as well. Let’s us know what Ford Warranty department says.

Are you talking about “rail dust” contamination? That is a thing and I inspected dozens of vehicles for that. It comes from riding railroad cars with out protective roof and sides.

No. I know that iron dust and or fines can cause similar contamination, but I didn't know it could happen on rail cars, although that makes sense. The iron contamination I was talking about is sort of a smearing/transfer from iron based tooling onto the surface being worked on. It can happen from forming or cutting tools (presses, drills lathe) and is kind of burnished into/onto the work. It does not wipe off and has to me chemically or mechanically removed.

While out washing the truck it looks like I need to make an appointment with the Dealer. The hood has corrosion on the right side where the hood dips down in the middle.

Check your vehicles boys and girls.
Any updates??
