There is corrosion and rust developing on the outer face of the driver's door key cylinder on my '24 XLT Eco AWD. The Mav was purchased new in June '25 with 5 miles. It has not seen a winter driving season although it sat out on a dealer's lot for 10 months. Should I (try) to get it relaced under warranty? Or am I being overly sensitive to something that will not have any long term impact on the operation of the door lock mechanism? Thanks for looking.

I have a 24 hybrid new with 80 miles from the dealer and I noticed the same thing on my tailgate. I sprayed it, and the drivers side lock, with PB Blaster. I guess that oversight was a cost saving measure 🤦

Mine has looked like that for the better part of the last three years, doesnt seem to be an issue. The coating likely gets scratched if you use the physical key, not much you can do about that. Spray it with a rust inhibiting oil spray, it should help.

Agree, I think the plating is so thin and if you use the key the rubbing makes it worse, I have seen it on all makes and models, give it a shot of wd40 once in a while. You can ask your dealer they might replace the cylinder, could have to coded then there going to take your door apart I think, any time a dealer works on my vehicle it worries me, Parking in there overcrowded lots and people driving my vehicle I don't even do recalls unless really necessary, I never did the airbag recall on my 22 XLT FX4 I have been there taking down a headliner is no easy job I have done it many times to repair sunroofs, and now on my 25 Lariat with that air bag light on dash, if it falls out or gets lose they could do it.
