Driving habits are probably the biggest factor in hybrid MPGs as long as the temperature is above 50f. There's not much you can do on the freeway, but any divided highway or backroads where you're under 55mph or stopping for red lights etc. you should be in Eco mode. Watch the EV coach bar and try to maximize coasting distance on electric only mode. Get up to speed with the gas engine then release the throttle completely for a second to force the switch to electric and try to maintain speed as long as possible using the blue electric bar. Same goes for downhills and anticipating stops. Maximize charging by taking long slow stops, again watching the EV coach to try to only use regenerative braking.

I find that kind of different. I owned a first and second generation Chevy Volt. The first generation Atkinson cycle required premium. My second generation with a different engine did not.

The first-generation Chevrolet Volt utilized an Atkinson cycle engine as part of its extended-range electric powertrain. This engine, which is a smaller internal combustion engine, runs in the Atkinson cycle for improved fuel efficiency when operating as a range extender.
The first-generation Chevrolet Volt, specifically models from 2011 to 2015, requires premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher. While regular unleaded fuel can be used in an emergency, using it will compromise fuel economy and may make the engine noisier.
Well, I believe "Atkinson Cycle" means the expansion (power) stroke is longer than the compression stroke.

I don't think it dictates what the actual compression is. The amount of compression of course dictates the octane number.

I have no idea how it works.
I know that my second gen volt went with a larger engine 1.5 that ran on regular gas and got better gas mileage, than the 1.4 in the first gen. that required premium.
Both being Atkinson cycle.
The second gen also got more mileage out of the battery and had a regeneration pad on the backside of the steering wheel. Yes it activated the brake light when it was used.

I like to have my rear slider opened and sunroof tilted to vent. No turbulence and I'm guessing, much better for MPG's than open side windows. Can do this in lieu of needing A/C in comfort to much warmer temps.
Can't stand the noise of big trucks, loud motorcycles and cars with illegal/no mufflers. And around here, if it is nice enough outside to open windows, it's usually pollen season - like right now!

My truck: 2024 Hybrid, 10,000 miles. I use 87 Octane. I do a 17 mile one way trip to work. In the morning I take ALL highway, up to 80 miles an hour is some parts...most parts about 60-70. On the way home I do the 17 miles on a back road....max speed limit is 45. I've been doing this same route for months. I consistently get 46 mph....EVERY week. Eco mode on the highway....Slippery mode on the back road. So yeah....mostly lower on the highway.....and super good on the back road....but it averages out to 46 mpg all day long. Not complaining  .

I've started driving in Slippery mode VS ECO
That and the warmer weather, I have seen a 🤏 increase in fuel mileage. 👍
I do like the less restrictive coasting.
I wish there was a way to install a regen pad/paddle on the steering wheel.
Yes, I know the brake pedal regen's before it actually applies the pads.

Yes…100%. Been using slippery a lot more too.

Agreed! Some of those Harley’s pass me with my window open and my ears start bleeding! Nice bikes tho.

So here is my local Costco gas pricing, not sure I'd see a 31%+ increase in MPG to warrant paying the extra dollar,,,,

That's the powerful point.

Let's pretend the manual is accurate between the different models years and 87 is fine, 91 is recommended. In some situations perhaps needed.

Is the increase in MPG the same or better than the increase in your local fuel prices?

Even an increase of 36 to 44 MPG is 22%.
Regular Fuel here @ $2.89 would mean Premium @ $3.53 to break even.
It's 3.46, so just barely a plus.

Of course when I tested 91 last summer - I got a whole 2 MPG extra.
So I stopped the test with just that 600 mile tank.

Will it hurt an EcoBoost to use slippery mode on dry pavement? 🤔
The computer doesn't know if it's wet or dry....but if it thinks it's "Slippery" I'm sure you're good. So I would say OK to use dry.

Hurt?
Or a benefit like the hybrid drivers are discussing for increased EV usage and therefore MPG?

I'm sure that mode for EB also calms the Go pedal - so you might benefit from calmer accelerations just because that is better for gas mileage.

But doesn't matter if it calms the brake pedal, and it sure isn't going to cause less engine braking when you let off the gas, and you don't get any extra coast benefit anyway since engine will remain running.

So can you use it - sure.
Will you get increased MPG out of it - perhaps if it stops fast accelerations, but that's it.
