Lucky you I guess, moldy mats are not fun to deal with.I don't know, I got my first car in 1990 and I've never, ever had an issue with mold on the carpet mats in any car. I think they do a better job of soaking up the winter crap and then in the spring I take them out and wash them good with some upholstery cleaner and hose them off an they look brand new. Like I said previously I hate the look of the rubber mats as they age. They turn gray and no matter how you clean them they look worn and terrible. That's just my opinion.
I don't know why you'd want to spend an entire winter with mats soaked full of salt and grime, I wash my rubber mats every other week when it's not absolutely frigid out.
I hate the look of carpet mats when they're sodden with water and leaking all over the car and can't imagine dealing with that for months on end.
