I was hauling a load of building materials north on the NY Thruway the other day, I pulled onto the shoulder to adjust a glass entry door in the 4x7 Uhaul trailer. I was getting back into the Maverick and beginning to close the door when a semi truck roared past, literally ripping the door handle out of my grasp, as it slams against the stops.. Now there's a slight resistance to closing the door, increased road noise and about 2-3mm of the door not aligning with the B pillar. Bringing it to the body shop on Monday, after they looked it over yesterday. Anybody know what this will look like....$$ wise? 1...more....second, door would've been closed, pretty sure the semi truck did not move over into the left lane like the law says here in NY, had to be going 75 too, I was as far off the shoulder that I could've parked.
I wished we didn't have to share roads with these trucks, I constantly see them trying to pass other trucks on uphills, holding up traffic- ALL THE TIME.

This probably would not have happened had the Maverick had normal inside door pulls that you don't pull from the front.

100% correct. Those stubs are awkward, as you only have finger strength pulling on them.

So you blame truck drivers for your own mistake, classic. Too bad you need those evil trucks to get those oh so important building supplies you were transporting in the first place.

It's all good Mr. Troll, I like living in your head, it's a simple place, all black and white!

So I see a mistake on your part:
What you call a shoulder most call an emergency lane - you should have just got off the next exit to adjust you cargo or better yet done so where you picked it up. Maybe the truck driver had a vehicle on his left side. Maybe you could have waited a few seconds to let a truck pass.
Sorry about your truck but you made several bad decisions so get over it.

I see your point, but no congestion present. I expected the truck to move over, per NY law, my bad. I see your point, will digest it, learn from the experience and thank your for the legitimate criticism.
Be safe.

You knew it when you bought it. I like the door handles.
Actually, Mavericks were so rare and hard to come by back then I never entered one until mine arrived at the dealer. The inside door handle wasn't even something I noted before buying. I don't mind them, but there's room for improvement.

I learned my lesson ordering a vehicle in 1978. Never have since. If I can't sit in it, drive it, and find the battery under the hood I won't buy it. I understand your point but the advance pictures showed them and I thought at first it was strange. But once I got in a Maverick I found I like the handles. Much easier on my arthritic fingers to close the door because I can use my palm.
The last (only other) Ford I ordered was a 1983 Mustang and the only things never at the dealer before about it were the 5 speed transmission and the factory sanctioned convertible top. The demo drive was in a 4 speed coup. I still have that car.

A friend of mine was almost killed when a semi took his open driver-side door completely off. He was about to get out of his car. Your life can change in an instant. Gotta be hyper-vigilant on the side of the road, and think like a rabbit (or a motorcyclist).
