What's that hole in the panel? I haven't measured it, maybe 5" by 7".

Do you have a picture of what you're referring to??

Update: I wasn't going to drop the splash panel just for a picture.
I set the phone in the floor and using selfie mode took a picture.
Posted before walking out of the garage.

Sorry, I haven't a clue.

During the time of an unknown reason for the engine fire issue, they cut holes and then started producing those shields with the holes already cut in them.

My 24MY also has it, even though by that time they knew the reason for the engine issue that could throw a rod and allow gas to drip, and had upgraded software to watch for signs of it coming and throw codes and go into limp mode if you had it.

They also removed the lower 2 fins of upper and lower active air shutters. See if yours are gone.
Mine had them removed even though by that time they had the exact date range of problem engines known.

It seems perhaps they realized a good idea no matter what.

Interesting - this replacement has a rubber flap in that space.
Much better, protects the very exposed outer shaft bearing on passenger side from what I thought could be easy water kick up to kill it faster.

And they left the other hole to see the engine/tranny mount sticker - which is I guess oh so important.
I couldn't decide what the rear facing "triangle" raised hole was for.

Here's a photo of my "skid plate". It would appear that there should be a cover of some sort attached to the larger hole.

Nothing is supposed to be there. Following the underhood fire recall Ford switched to using the EcoBoost engine compartment plate with its extra openings. On an AWD model there would be a plastic air diverter that clips on there to direct airflow to cool the PTU, but for FWD applications it's just left open.

Look at my pic again to put several of these comments together.

Thanks. Cheapest way to address the issue on the FWD's I guess.

Yes. Something would be missing

Thanks. I suppose nothing is supposed to be there on my hybrid. I just looks like something fell off. I needn't worry.
