Would a lightning maverick with a turbo v6 ,fat wider tires, dual exhaust, handling improvements be something you would buy!stronger turbo v4 if the v6 wasn’t possible would be fine with enough power😎
No. No need for that much power.

Lightning as been rebranded. But a Lobo Grabber package sounds good.

Ford (of Germany) did have a great little V4 back in the 60's. Had one in my 1969 SAAB. SAAB before that had 2, then 3 Cyc 2 strokes (had one of those too, a 1962) and could no longer pass US pollution standards with that motor so they bought the V4 from Ford of Germany. It was so tiny you could see the ground all around the motor when you opened the hood. Confused the hell out of unsuspecting gas station attendants when they checked the oil and found "FOMOCO" on the dipstick. lol A small V4 turbo would be awesome. hahahaha

Not a Sonnet, was a SAAB 96 (the wagon version was a SAAB 95). I worked as a bagger, then cashier in a supermarket at the time while going to college nights... I used to get kidded all the time about my pregnant jellybean (what they called my car).

Forgot all about the Sonnet. Loved the Sonnet at the time and wanted one... hahahaha

The twin turbo 2.7L V6 drivetrain from a Fusion Sport is totally doable in the Maverick. Tune it to 375hp on E-85. They are like second cousins, made in Mexico. 😆 The front brakes from a Lobo would help tame those ponies.

There are already 12 second Maverick pickups running around with 2.3L four bangers using Ranger turbos. With respect to the performance electric drivetrain Lightning or Mach-E GT mating with the Maverick, well, whirring electric motors and whining inverters just doesn't sound as good, won't go as fast, won't handle as well, weighs a bunch more and can't go as far.

We're better off ordering a Lobo and starting from there if we want an affordable baby Lightning truck, lol. 😁
I'm going the other direction with a lifted, 90's compact truck look with a roll bar and fat tires, while still able to get about 40mpg. Some day when my Maverick is out of the body shop,...😪
It was fun for three days.

coincidentally, the Sonett III showed up in a recent article by Hagerty.

https://www.hagerty.com/media/marke...ow-ready-european-classics-for-less-than-30k/

All these earlier cars stretch past that $30K cap in #1 condition, but the Sonett III doesn’t. The major redesign for Saab’s semi-sports car gave it a sharper shape and pop-up headlights, manually operated via lever. It still used the V-4 borrowed from Ford, but it now displaced 1698 cc. The Sonett III wasn’t a huge seller, with fewer than 8500 built, and they’re pretty cheap today. The #1 value is just $25,400 for 1970–73 models, and $23,800 for later ’73 and ’74 cars that have monstrous federal impact bumpers.

A V4 requires two cylinder heads, 2 exhaust manifolds, two valve trains, etc., so the inline 4 is way cheaper and less complex to manufacture. The way to improve the allure and desirability of an inline 4 is to make it a cross plane crank design. Yes, it requires a counter balance shaft, but it is less complicated and less expensive to make than a V4, while still having the bad-assed, deep, rumbly sound and low end torque delivery.

I myself would love a Maverick PHEV, like my Volt. There should be plenty of space under the bed for batteries.
