Okay...

I can get an oil burning smell from under the hood. The Maverick used 1+ quart of oil in the trip back from Florida about 2,000 miles total.

It's due for an oil change(actually past due).

So I hope to put the truck on my lift and pull the skid plate and change the oil plus look for the oil leak.

If it's a minor deal I can fix it myself. If it's more complex I'll make the trek to my dealer.

Anyone else have any issues like this?

How many miles are on your Maverick? Normally the first place they all start leaking is the valve cover gasket, but there's no way you lost 1+ quart in 2000 miles that way. One thing's for sure, with that amount leaking, the source should be pretty obvious once you get the skid plate off.

Just over 6,000 miles.

It had about 3k on the oil change (4200 total miles?)when I noticed the oil level was down 1/2 quart. Used the next 1/2 quart before I left FL than had to add another quart in southern IL on the way home.

I guess that makes two quarts that I had to add!

Right now the oil level is ok but I still can smell burning oil at stop lights and when I park.

I want to change the oil but don't want to piss away $40 in oil and filter $$$ if the dealer has to do a fix requiring the oil to be drained.

Hopefully I'll be home from work early enough to get it in my shop.

I might have to swap in a Boss 429 in place of the EB...

In this world with money and patience everything is almost possible, with so many LS swaps in many cars even on miata's, a 429 maverick is more than possible.

I DID build a chopped, shortened '56 F100 with an early 671 blown Hemi with a Mopar B body torsion bar front end so I'm not scared of a project!

I wonder if Ford would still honor their warranty?

Well, no idea, but I don't think so, or may the warrant the rest of the vehicle.

Well... I finally got a chance to do an oil change on the Maverick today.

My grandson Chris gave the old man a lending hand since two 600 mile workdays in a rough riding Mack truck had my legs and back chriropractor ready...

Anywho...

We get the truck on my lift... pull the skid plate. We notice an oil film almost everywhere. Check the drain plug... tight. Tighten a few fittings... all ok.

So I wipe some dripping oil off the oil filter and VOiLA! (that means holy sh@t for those of you in Rio Linda)...a loose oil filter!

Blame the former automotive expert engine guy, chassis builde, hot rodder and stock car racer... me!

I of course I have no one else to blame. I accept my fate... constant ridicule from everyone.

God I'm a dumbass!

I am really surprised it didn't fall off... it was THAT loose!

Well good on you for owning it and all. Man that’s a tough break. It always tough for filters. Snug it up and sometimes can barely get it back off. Leave it less tight and that happens.

You merely compensated to make up for the OEM filter tightness.
So now for your 2 oil/filter changes - the filters have been just right .... on average.

Respect for finding out what happened and updating us even if you thought it might cause embarrassment. when I first got my Maverick I thought I had a problem when after remote starting I would put the key in the run position and the car would shut off. I made a thread about it, I even took it to the dealer and asked them. That was not happening.

It was a hot summer, I was testing the remote start and did not realize that the air conditioning was kicking on to full blast because the inside of the car was really hot. And when I turn the key to the run position the fan shut off momentarily and went to my auto temp settings where I had the fan set to low. Because I heard the fan turn off I thought the car was shutting off. Duh!!!!
