87 its what the manual said.
35.8 mpg average. Mostly interstate.
Same station, same pump if possible.
Some trips 55 mpg some 6 mpg. Temp and distance all seem to play some factor. Of course it's new and I'm still learning.

Congrats on the new Mav, may want to update your profile to remove the "on order". Temp has made a huge difference in my mpg, dipped to 37 mpg over the winter, usually around 42 - 43 long term average in warmer weather.

Anything above 87 is just wasted money.
You can convince yourself otherwise. Ever notice how much smoother the engine is, how much better the ride and even the radio sounds better after a wash and wax?
Same with high octane gas. You're just mind-f@#$%^g yourself.
I agree 100% The only time I get high octane is when I ride my Indian motorcycle because it calls for min 91 octane.

Whatever I run, whether 87, 89, or 91, I go for the non-ethanol blends

Reading several posts, I noticed that when towing, it seems that 91 and above really make a difference.. I normally use Costco gas, lower grade.

Use regular, these engines are not high compression and do not need higher octane fuel. They are designed and the ECU is tuned for regular. You may actually harm the engine in the long run because you end up with more unburned fuel. Do yourself, your wallet and your engine a favor and use regular.

Me: 2024 hybrid. 87 octane. I buy my gas at Costco which is considered top tier as the additive is required in California. Today, 3/28/25, 87 is $4.64/gallon at Costco. My overall mpg displays as 45.2 mpg for several tanks. My range is 605+ miles. I drive with a light foot.

My avatar photo is of my 22 EB, purchased as a place holder until my hybrid order was filled.

So what you're saying is if I want better mileage buy a 10 year old Fiat :ROFLMAO:
I had a 1976 Honda CVCC yellow and black. Little go cart thing. A/C was where the glove box was supposed to be.
I think it had a 1.8 Ltr and a 5 Speed stick.

CARBURETOR NOT EFI
Ran on regular gas.
Fast little go buggy.
54 mpg on the highway at 75 mph.
49 city all day long in traffic with the A/C wide open In the central Florida heat.

Im pretty sure you could buy FOUR of these smooth as a Swiss watch running go carts For what we pay for a Lariat Tremor.
Pre Ethanol we are all gonna die pre emission controlled.
Damn thing would do 104 mph if I didn’t have any fat friends with me.

1976 tech.
I bought it from my Dad,
My Brother bought it from me,
I never told him we’d get drunk and use a smooth curb to put it on two wheels and ride down the street laughing our asses off.
I bought it back from my brother,
My dad bought it back from me and traded it in on an El Camino that got 12 mpg in town and 18 on the super slab.
I put some wrapped headers on my Dads Camino and a pair of Thrush mufflers. It sounded so freakin cool.

The Honda CVCC,
I actually got laid in the back seat, my girl was a tall lanky chick. Yep we were contortionists.
My buddies couldn’t believe it.

That's not what "top tier" means; there is no "considered" involved.

TopTier is a standard for detergents and such put together by a group of automobile manufacturers (Cadillac, German, and Japanese) to insure that what they needed to go to higher compression was in the fuel.

Brands either get the certification, or not. Almost all will display it on the pump.

Requirements of individual states, or even the feds, have absolutely nothing to do with whether it's toptier or not,

OK dochawk, you got me. Here is what a seach generated by AI found:

Yes, Kirkland Signature Gasoline at Costco is certified to meet the TOP TIER™ performance standards and contains more detergents than the EPA requires, making it a high-quality, top-tier fuel option.

Yes, Kirkland Signature Gasoline at Costco is certified to meet the TOP TIER™ performance standards and contains more detergents than the EPA requires, making it a high-quality, top-tier fuel option.
Top Tier Detergent Gasoline and Top Tier Diesel Fuel are performance specifications and trademarks designed and supported by several automakers.[1] BMW, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, Acura/Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Navistar, Audi, and Volvo support the gasoline standard, while General Motors, Volkswagen, Detroit Diesel, and Navistar support the diesel standard (as of 2018). Top Tier fuels must maintain levels of detergent additives that are believed to result in a higher standard of engine cleanliness and performance as compared to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirement. In addition, Top Tier fuels may not contain metallic additives, which can harm the vehicle emission system and create pollutants. As of 2018, Top Tier Detergent Gasoline is available from 61 licensed retail brands, and Top Tier Diesel Fuel is available from 5 licensed retail brands.

Licensed Top Tier fuel retailers use a higher level of detergent additive which can increase fuel economy and optimal engine performance. According to an automotive industry spokesman, the regular use of this type of gasoline results in improved engine life.[2]

The Top Tier standards must apply to all grades of gasoline or diesel that a company sells, whether it is economy (low-octane) or premium (high-octane).[3]

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 7, 2016) – New testing from AAA has uncovered significant differences in the quality of gasoline sold at fuel retailers in the United States. The independent laboratory testing compared gasolines that meet TOP TIER™ standards often marketed to consumers as having enhanced, engine-cleaning detergent additives with gasoline brands that do not participate in the automaker-backed program. Among brands tested, non-TOP TIER gasolines caused 19 times more engine deposits than TOP TIER brands after just 4,000 miles of simulated driving. Such carbon deposits are known to reduce fuel economy, increase emissions and negatively impact vehicle performance, particularly on newer vehicles. To protect vehicle investments, AAA urges drivers to use a gasoline that meets TOP TIER standards for engine cleanliness and performance.

“AAA was surprised to learn the extent to which detergent additives impact gasoline quality,” revealed Greg Brannon, AAA’s managing director of Automotive Engineering and Repair. “As advertised, tested TOP TIER gasolines kept engines remarkably cleaner than other fuels we tested.”
