Winter fell on our heads up here in the north, had a good dump of snow. One of the things I noted pretty quickly after buying the truck, was how deeply sunken underneath the hood the windshield wipers are. Great for streamlining/drag reduction, but snow & ice accumulate in there. Snow slides down the windshield and can pack in the slot, freezing the windshield wipers in place. No idea if you'd burn out or damage the windshield wiper mechanism trying to operate 'em frozen in place - I don't want to find out! I found that with ignition off/no power, you can easily rotate the wiper arms up, and lift 'em off the window - common practice up here in winter, to prevent wiper blades freezing to the window. Makes scraping the snow and ice off the windshield easier. Also makes it easier to clear snow & ice out of the trough too. Of course you must remember to rotate (lay) the wipers back down onto the glass before starting... the wiper arms could hit hood trailing edge doing some damage.

On a different note, I have Michelin X-ice Latitude snowtires on steel rims, find the Maverick tackles the snow just fine. The AWD is sure nice to have, seems to work well. Hopefully the Maverick is a good winter machine... the -30C temps we usually see in the dead of winter are a challenge!

Just got mine Saturday and had some snow here yesterday and I noticed the deep pockets too. I even cleared out a bunch of leaves that accumulated. I figured I’ll have to make good use of the remote start

I noticed the cabin air intake is tucked underneath the hood trailing edge, in that trough too. Probably wouldn't be good if that got plugged solid with snow/ice.

LUX package includes *Windshield Wiper De-Icer* Is this just a heat strip in the lower windshield or something more sophisticated ?

That's a Ford "design". Lots of the F250 super duty i've driven at work have the deep cavity like that. Much harder to clear that off the hood/windshield of an super duty than the Mav!

The linked video is a generic Ford video on how the windshield wiper deicer works, couldn't find one specific to the Maverick.

I ordered a Lariat + Lux Pkg and hope that feature works. But it heats the windshield/blades so I don't know if it will help under the hood's trailing edge.

As a side note, it seems this option is being removed from some other Ford trucks.

Great info- Says with the Ford/Sync app you can remote start the de-icer- that would be cool.

Kind of a cool thing... I was playing around a bit in the snow today, had the AWD display up. Goosing it a bit, spinning the front wheels, you can immediately see the torque being sent to the back wheels, and then once you get up to speed, the reverse happens, you see it shift back to FWD only. Pretty seamless, and an excellent graphical representation. Sorry, apologize for the blurry pic - very hard to get a good picture when you're driving.

I posted about this on the weekend as well. Interesting to see it is on the 4.2 inch screen as well! I was pleasantly surprised. It must be temperature based (just below freezing when I was out as well).

Lux package has heat at bottom of windshield where wipers park.

What does it look like on the bigger screen? Can you post a link to your post, or post a pic? Very slippery conditions here today. Melting in places actually. Lots of accidents. Thankful to have AWD and very good snowtires.

Looking at the owners manual, I don't think it even gives directions on how to get to that AWD screen display.

If you go into the screen settings, you'll find an option that is a list of the available screens. For whatever reason the display can't show all of the screens (of course I'm talking about the current MPG screen, trip 1, trip 2 etc). In order to display the AWD screen, you need to disable one of the others that is showing (ones like the seatbelt indicator or music playing options were the first to go for me!).

It looks similar to the post above, with a top-down view of a generic truck, and 4 bands next to the tires that show which tires are receiving power at that moment.

How is life in the 'Peg? Can't really say I miss it myself (outside of some good friends of course), lived there for a couple years in the late 90s!

I think it does that all the time. I was watching the other night while on dry pavement at 45* and the rear would kick in under medium acceleration.
