Yes but most everyone was complaining of the Mexico one as if it was the end all. Look at the title of the thread. It clearly states both Mexico and Canada.
We may experience some short term pain. But that does not chance the fact that as I stated form the first time this popped up. If it’s used as a bargaining chip then so be it.
I’d say 2 out of three is better than zero out of 3 which is what we have had for years.
Sometimes we need some short term pain for long term benefits. The math is on our side as far as consumption rates.
One of those old who is it gonna hurt more. Hint it is the one who is more reliant one one than the other. Sure we may not get our “cheap” goods but they also lose out on the biggest consumer of goods.
Well....I'lll give you the title point

https://jalopnik.com/cheap-european-cars-are-ditching-infotainment-screens-i-1851758109
For a while the backup camera requirement meant that couldn't happen here. But now that we're seeing dashboard screens and digital dashboard s we don't need the infotainment screen to show the backup camera.

Of course I just show Android Auto on my screen anyway. But some companies (friggin GM) are ditching AA and CarPlay entirely because that want your data to sell.

Ok
Um... supposedly inflation had a big part to play in the recent popularity contest we had in November. Not sure how people weren't caring about it?
Yes when I say apparently inflation wasn’t a big deal to some is because while they moaned and groaned about prices they were not about to get serious and identify the main culprit. It couldn’t be their team oh no it had to be the other team and so it goes. It couldn’t be government policy it was corporate greed!!!

Now that same team all the sudden in just the last month, starting January 20th to be more precise, is convinced tariffs will be our doom. Because of this government’s policy we are all going to be in the poor house.

So tell me my Maverick friends which of these so called “greedy” corporations is in favor of these tariffs? Well as a matter of fact none of them. Why would that be? If they can just pass the tariff off to the consumer why should they care? They can’t in this economy and they know it. But wait are not these corporations making obscene profits? According to many here they are. If that’s true then surely the corporations will be able to absorb the tariff without big price increases. If Ford is making obscene profits then guess what they will pay for these tariffs with some of those profits as long as you don’t buy their product unless they do.

Now if indeed the profit margin is low and the folks won’t buy the product then one path for the corporations is to bring the manufacturing of their product home to the U.S. where we have lost 35% of our manufacturing capacity in the last 50 years and all the untold numbers of good paying jobs associated with that.

Yes tariffs are essentially a bargaining tool. They are used to hopefully get a country to be more fair in their trade policy when a government feels like its people are getting the short end of the stick in the trade with that country. The U.S. currently has close to a trillion dollar trade deficit with the countries of the world. Half of that with just four countries. China, EU, Mexico, Canada. We will always run deficits but there is no way a yearly trillion dollar deficit is a good thing.

Yes we still have inflation but it is much lower than it has been. Im a free trade guy but wee do need more jobs. More good paying jobs. We do need to make more of our products here in America. We are too dependent on other countries. These are just facts. The pendulum has swung too far in one direction and it needs correction. We also need to have certain countries change their behavior in other areas not directly tied to trade. It’s happening.

All that said the Mavericks are still coming in and the price increase are not all that great, just as I suspected would be the case.

No sir. Current tariff threats to our North American neighbors are not to level off trade policy.

No sir. First, inflation doesn’t just appear and disappear. And according to the Fed in yesterday’s news, inflation ticked higher.
The rise of inflation was due to cheap borrowing during covid.
Nothing to do with supply and demand or the job market.

And while some use eggs as an indicator of inflation, let’s remember that egg prices are due to avian bird flu.

And coming is the "negotiating" of the foreign version of tariffs = Value Added Tax collected whether profit is made or not.

Yes sir cheap borrowing and funds outright given to people out of thin air while there was low productivity which created a supply problem because of created demand that should not have been there. So yes there was a supply and demand problem.

And I agree these latest tariff threats are more to do with getting changes in other policies not having to do with trade specifically. That doesn’t mean there won’t be.

meh.... everybody's a revisionist..... framing everything to fit their narrative..... both sides do it, and I hate it.... it's called... being political..... and it's incredibly divisive... and it's no longer just the domain of politicians.... nope... you can get your own dose of it right here on MTC from your fellow membership if you haven't already grown exhausted of it from the talking heads compliments of your media outlet of choice.....

Back to Tarrifs..... watch the usd (dollar) to mxn (peso)... Barely moved at all despite rhetoric and policies.... Lots of pontificating in this thread... but the powers that be that control the wealth haven't panicked....

Got on waiting list for fifty pullets $4.54 each will be available in May!
My daughter's chicken yard is visible from the street. All through the last egg shortage, people kept pulling up wanting to buy her chickens!

I hope she got her order in in time; she was going to order new ones to replace the aging ones. (except for the old rooster, which is better than a guard dog. He actually took down a falcon or small hawk!)

As my father used to say, "I've been kicked out of better places than this, and for less cause."
That's what happens when you join clubs that will have you as a member!

Three years ago my daughters Jack Russell disappeared. The only thing in the back yard was a big reddish feather.
When I was in 6-8th grade we had one of the ceremonial "Easter Chicks" that survived. He grew into a gigantic Rooster which we kept in an over turned kids wooden play pen which we bolted a 2x6 rim on it to make it taller. He ate and drank water through the wooden slats because it was too dangerous to try to put them inside. He would have killed us if he ever got out. We had tree limbs we stuck through the cage to move it from spot to spot stretcher style while not picking it up more than an inch or two. We called him "Blue Devil" because that was the color he was dyed.

My dad’s neighbor who has free range chickens has locked up her layers into a bigger LOCKED coop now.
No more free range for the layers and their broods. and we didn’t mind cause they did a bang up job of pest control around my dad’s.

I enjoyed tuning the corner of the house and seeking momma & chicks scatter Willy nilly …sigh, no more.
Not cause of hawks but cause of some rotten chicken snatchers. 😬

We are sad they took 2 of the layers. too bad they didn’t take the scrawny jr rooster,
That loud mouth must be on Eastern Standard Time!
Just kidding,
Seriously, I hope who ever snatched em has traumatized the girls so much they don’t get a single egg out of em!

I’m sad for the chicken, idk they are like pets and chickens are social. They just plucked family members away and the chickens probably sad now

also who knows if they even know how to take care of them. Sad

Thieves need put down, and I stand by that
