Wow, this thread got derailed... Its now an investment portfolio thread.

So, I crossed the border yesterday at Nogales. Saw the same presence on the US and Mex sides that I'm used to seeing there. However, let me mention these 2 crossings st the dual cities of Nogales Sonora and Nogales Arizona have always been heavily staffed .. if either side added more, Im not sure what they would do with them as all gates and all offline inspection areas are always packed. The wall here is about 20' tall in both eastern and western directions. I'm told many churches in Nogales Sonora are providing shelter to Refugees who were waiting in Mexico but had their US applications frozen or dropped altogether as a consequence of the EO.

Likewise, both countries have additional checkpoints at about 15 km for Mexico and 20 miles for the USA. Additionally, there are smaller pop-up revision areas scattered about the secondary roads/highways along each side of the border.

Yesterday, I saw a caravan of 200 soldiers in 20 vehicles getting gas in Santa Ana .. They were heading to the border areas between California and Nogales AZ as a result of the deal struck post tarriff EO . I asked them... But I didn't take any photos (they have big guns). 😅

I encountered very few inspection points further away from the border.. so it's obvious lots of resources are being pulled to be placed along the border.. No one asked for proof of paying duty on the two washing machines I hauled down for two families in the Maverick. That is unusual, but these down state checkpoints just didn't have the staff to check every car zipping down the highway... It will be interesting to see how they handle the logistics of supporting large numbers of deployed soldiers in the remote sections of the desert.

The National Guard has been used to augment or outright replace (in the case of corruption) municipal police forces throughout Mexico to monitor/control cartel activities as they extend their reach to other industries/opportunities (hotels, convenient store franchises, everything else ...) and bully competitors... Majority of Cartel activities are in legitimate enterprises, though operated unethically. Now these resources will focus soley on gun/drug trafficking along the border. So, it will interesting to see the impact in the next few months and years. I'm going to cruise by my local Marines barracks here in Álamos (8 hours from the border) and see if they're being redeployed north.

I continue to see huge numbers of semis in large caravans with 2025 Mavericks and Brinco Sports heading north. January was a record breaking month for production in Hermosillo, so obviously there is some beat the clock activity occuring... This certainly is not anything to do with the Quality Hold at this point.

Through it all, Peso is stable at just above 20 to 1....
Here is one way, if they need a dozer or a lot of bullets.

was going to buy 200 shares Berkshire Hathaway
Mine was Apple.

In the late '90s, Apple was on the ropes. I figured that it'd be bought by vultures to break it up, and came up with a value of about $20/share. So I was going to shift $5k of my retirement when it hit $13.50, to reap 50%.

It never dropped below $14. Had I bought it at $15, I would have passed 100x return years ago . . .

oh, well. But I wasn't looking at it as an investment to hold.

though some years I want to puke. Got friends who track things daily, monthl
I've done the daily tracking since the 2020 crash, which quickly recovered. It's about having the data in front of me to remind me how fast markets recover for the next time. (Which was 2022, much worse than 2020. And I held my nerve, and got it all back in 2023).

I "adjust" my portfolio only once a year (twice on rare occasions) and have been blessed so far.
Annually is too often for me.

I got the bright idea to do that over 15 years ago, moved a chunk to Vanguard's energy, and took until something like 15 years before it broke even! I'm now slowly liquidating it, my international stuff, and my real estate holdings (between my own house and what my wife and I will inherit, I'm grossly over exposed to real estate!)

I used to use both vanguard and fidelity. Over time, I've found that for most areas (with a couple of exceptions), Fidelities slightly higher fees are more than covered by higher returns. And when vanguard added fees for closing accounts a few months ago, I had all my vanguard funds move to fidelity before the fees took effect! I'm now slowly switching most of those holdings to Fidelity funds.

I also like 10 or even longer.
I get leery past 10, as markets and managers change. I bought Magellan even though Peter Lynch had left, and would have been better with my other candidates at the time.

How do you think we pay for our mavericks and F-150s?
:teehee:

[besides, I'm a displaced and retired economics professor; I can't help pointing people in the direction of long term investing!]

What exactly will happen to all of those folks who have an order in already?
Are the prices of their Mavericks “locked”?
What is the dealerships saying and has Ford Corp sent anything out to the guys waiting for their builds?

I do not want to start something, I am just trying to get a clear picture of what is going on.

Neither Mexico or Canada can afford a trade war with the U.S. Calm down Maverick buyers this is short term pain for long term gain. That gain can happen on many fronts which is a political discussion so that will be left aside but I predict any disruptions will be short lived.
The problem is that the pain and gain usually aren't equally shared. Some get the pain and others get the gain.

Join the club. I think everyone would like a clear picture but the picture (and the situation) keeps changing day by day. The dealerships likely aren't on the same page and Ford is still pivoting. I doubt we're going to get much clarity until things settle down a bit.

The situation aka picture is changing so what do you expect. I just checked hatchery prices and female chicks are $4.89 each with the 50 count purchase. Eggs to hatch are even more expensive at $62.95/dozen. (= They are so hard to get/produce that the hatchery figures that by the time they hatch the chicks will be even higher). This will be a test for Costco to want to keep it's roasted chickens at $4.99. we usually buy 4 of them once a month but expect a limit next time.

Why is this thread still open?

Hell, why isn't it deleted?

I got an unfair unwarranted "warning" for a very brief, very funny, non political sarcastic joke that tons of people liked and gave nothing but positive reactions to.

Maybe this place is moderated by A.I.? It does not feel like it is run by humans.
