Hey all,

I got in the truck to go to work this morning in -33 degrees, and got a service soon notification. My drive modes were also locked out. I noticed very odd and unresponsive acceleration from stop, so I restarted at a stop light and got a check engine light on. I now have three notifications on the app:

The engine control system has detected the electronic throttle body is not responding as commanded

Forward collision unavailable (dont care)

Powertrain malfinction/reduced power: the system has detected a power train or 4wd fault

What could be wrong? I should have turned around but I'm at work now and am parked in the freezing cold.

Update I left it running for an hour after the commute and turned it back on. Everything is fixed, except at the check engine light is still on which I presume is just a way to get me to have it checked out so that I need to go in to get it cleared? Anyway I'm pretty sure that it was a frozen open throttle body given the symptoms and the resolution

Don't need to take it in to be cleared probably - enough miles or a couple of drive cycles with no issue it'll clear itself.

Collision error could have been as simple as ice melt in front of windshield camera.
It only puts out so much heat to melt the area - your extreme temps may have been a losing battle.

Ah, Alberta. So that’s -33 C then, cold! Here in BC we get to -20 overnight (interior) and my 24 Eco does weird things also upon start and warmed up. Nature of the beast I guess!

I had a very similar incident a couple of weeks ago. Temps were in the low -20's and I'd started it with the App. When I came out, it was barely idling. So shut it off and restarted with the key, got the same Throttle and Powertrain messages as the OP and no response to throttle inputs. Fuel level was down to about 30%, and given the big temperate swings we've been having, I suspected potential condensation buildup and water contamination.
I won't go into all the details, but a splash of fresh, premium gas and a bottle of "Water Remover" fuel treatment got it running better, went to a different station and filled up with 93 octane and all was good the following morning. Next tank, I went with 91 octane at my usual retailer. Again, all good. Saturday night, filled up with regular 87. Sunday night, problems again. Tried adding some methanol, and was able to get home. Yesterday, no problems. Tonight, not so good. Was able to eventually get it to run well enough to get to town and filled up with 94 octane. Fingers crossed for the trip home.

That's only -27F which is fairly common most winters for those of us that live north of the woodchucks. This year the coldest I have seen is -18F and had no issues but I must say this thread is a bit disconcerting. Getting stranded in these temps even if one is prepared is no picnic at all especially the older one gets.

When younger I used to say these temps were invigorating. Now? They friggin hurt.

Wish you good luck regarding the various error messages. Regarding the "Forward collision unavailable" I too wish this darn thing could be turned off permanently. The other day I attempted to make a left turn while an oncoming car was getting closer - but not too close. Guess what happened, by throttle was temporarily turned off!!!! If that is not a safety hazard out of my control, I don't know what is! The throttle kicked back in again, and just in time!

The good news:
I was able to get home last night and no issues (so far) today.

The bad news:
I've been emailing and chatting with my service manager since the initial incident and he's determined that the throttle body needs to be replaced. Ouch! Guess the SIBL will have to wait yet again. Anyway, parts are ordered and service is scheduled for Friday.

I am having this same issue . No temp issues but i just had the 12v battery recall done- now i am getting multiple failure codes and the dealership says i need to replace the throttle body for $1200.
whats worse is they say they dont see a pre collision assist fault which came up several times over the last couple days. So im not even certain they will solve all the issues- seems like a software issue- did you ever get a resolution

after having multiple error codes it was determined that my throttle body also needed replacing - only 60k miles, no crazy temps and i baby it- I feel like im getting ripped off- they maybe could have cleaned it idk- but basically $1000 to fix it and they say they cant even reproduce the intial warning light which was for pre collision assist failure. Im not happy at this time- i feel like there will be more issues once i get it back

You know the advice for a computer - have you turned it off and back on again?

Since a new battery is in the mix - look at that work order - did they do the Battery Sensor Reset?

If not, you may want to charge the baby up if you can, disconnect the negative cable for 5 minutes for that power off.
Hook it back up, and do the BS Reset.
Let it sit overnight locked for the BMS Relearn.

Those items are in the manual BTW.

Just imagining someone hooking the cables back to the new battery, perhaps negative was first, had problems getting the positive on with good contact - oops, start again, oops.
Several quick on/off/on cycles to the modules - not great.
Possible. So the power off resets all the modules.

It's not going to hurt - that process is in several of their routines.

Never heard of the negative disconnect before doing the BMS reset?

It was in the SSM for hybrid battery problems before they had the upgrade for the ACCM.

Just in case whatever was causing the parasitic draw was still on and doing it's thing - no need charging up a battery, testing it, and letting it go with that still happening.

It is NOT the normal process for doing a BS reset, which is only needed for a new battery.
So it kinda happens automatically anyway when you replace a battery.

The BMS Relearn does NOT get a system shutdown before hand.
