first off, I'm sorry, but it freaking kills me when I call by phone, to talk to a Ford representative with a technical question, and they connect me with some lady, most likely at home in her living room, and maybe changing her kids diapers, or feeding the dog, while she tries to answer my question on her hands free headset. Of course this lady knows absolutely nothing about my question, or even Mavericks in general, so whatever I ask her, she has to try to find it in her information booklet they give her, while I wait....... and wait..... Urgggg...

But I digress. I'm still trying to get a number... "What is the number of amps I can safely draw from the Maverick Hybrid electrical system" ???

I should say, "From the 12V side". Being able to draw straight from the high voltage traction battery would be freaking awesome ! But I don't think that technology is quite there yet, for the aftermarket scene. That would be kind of a deadly, warranty killing endeavor at this point in time.

So the answer is "whatever amperage fuse is on the line you tap into". Unless you draw straight from the battery. A better question is "how many amps are you planning to draw"? since drawing straight from the battery is kind of a bad idea on a number of levels.

I feel your pain. That's exactly the kind of question I would expect a Ford phone rep to be able to answer from memory. Amiright? :sneaky:

I mean, I called the other day to ask whether the eCVT goes into an overdrive condition when MG1 RPM drops below ICE RPM. And the phone rep put me on hold. Can you believe it? :devilish:

Odds are you won't get that answer for liability reasons because Ford doesn't want home mechanics burning their cars to the ground base on what customer service said.

I have made three calls. I definitely get the Mom-in-the-living-room feeling. That's what I thought! These people can't see anything useful about your order except your order code and sales code. One told me she couldn't even access my email address. In other words, they can see if you are in the system and that's about all. I never was able to get any info at all about when I might get a build. I think they are just there to "sooth the savage beast."

Well, I'd expect Ford to tell you drawing straight from the 12 V battery is a bad idea > But this is exactly how 99% of all the aftermarket car audio systems are wired. Granted, up until now, 99% of aftermarket stereos have been installed in ICE vehicles, with old school alternators.
IMPO, aftermarket car audio just hasn't caught up with Hybrid and all Electric vehicle technology 'yet', but hopefully soon. I think its inevitable though.

The expectations that some of you have is astounding. If you're asking technical questions like this, you are not an average consumer, and to realize that the customer service line is for... wait for it... average consumers.

I don't think wanting to add an aftermarket stereo, is an "astounding" proposition. I'd think this is a common enough thing, that any tech help person should have a few paragraphs of info on this exact subject.

Adding aftermarket accessories is more complex than you think on current vehicles. Many don’t have unused or even just generic connectors which can be tapped into easily. Many features are also tied into computerized systems or interfaces which are not designed for add-ons. Sometimes an interfacing module can be added but may lose part of it’s functionality. It’s best these days to have all the electronics you think you might want, installed from the factory.

Unfortunately, basically no new vehicles have a stereo system available, that sounds even half way decent > for any price ! This is discussed, and generally agreed upon, all the time on car audio forums. Recently, a guy was talking about the stereo system in his Ferrari sounding like chit, mostly from the lack of bass. Anyone who thinks a factory stereo in "any new vehicle" sounds okay, just hasn't sat in a vehicle with a high end (or even, medium high end... like in my Prius) sound quality stereo system.
And this seems really crazy to me, knowing how fantastic a stereo system can sound for as little as $1000. Why in the world an auto manufacturer wouldn't put in $1000 worth of gear (which would probably cost them $300) that they could sell for $3000 is beyond me ?

While power budgets are tight and special consideration must be taken, Ford advertised this as a "maker's vehicle", adding 12V taps in the bed for lighting and compressors and all the 3D accessory printing "customize your truck" talk. Customization and accessorizing should be an expectation. Custom audio is likely the most established aftermarket modification industry.

It has been stated that the hybrid may be used for fleet services. Perhaps one should call and inquire about how much current can be safely provided by the hybrid system for a two-way radio system used for dispatch? Safety lights? Other commercial equipment. Tell 'em you need a whole fleet for NAPA or something. Maybe the expectation suddenly becomes less astounding?

An upfitter isn’t calling a consumer customer support phone line.

You really thought you had something there šŸ˜‚
