So how does this actually work as far as tariffs go? So Ford builds a Maverick in Mexico and the manufacturer suggested retail price is 30,000 so now with the 25% tariff that same vehicle the MSRP would be 37,000 or 37,500? Or does the tariff only count towards the cost to build the vehicle? I mean obviously no matter what the answer is, the consumer is going to be stuck paying.

If I had to guess, I assume it'll be 10% increase across board. so lets say 30k into 33k overnight.

Did not vote for tariffs (ANY of the (3X) times) and also did not vote for the other major option. And yet, I still voted.

If you don't like the price/cost don't pay it, that is how markets work,

If another individual pays for your pre-ordered vehicle at a higher price, let them..

I dont care about politics, tbh. my life doesn't change either way whoever in charge. I work for my money and I buy my products, this is only directly affecting me because I placed an order lol so yeah. if it does happen and im price protected, thats cool/good. sucks for people who dont pay in time.

but this is the world we are going into. we are being encouraged to invest, and not hold money, thats for sure. people who hold money are losing out bad. inflation is brutal.

myself included, I lost out gambling on investments, so I have been paying off my house. if I paid all the money towards house into stocks, id be up 10x more. but whatever.

oh yeah, im just 1.5 months of payments from paying my house off!!! 8 years into my 30 year loan.

as of right now (16:42pm central 1/21/25) the tariffs are threatened by 1 Feb but nothing has been done yet. bear in mind this is a strongarm negotiation tactic to close the borders and get more effort on drug trafficking prevention, so it can change at any time, and it could be short-lived if the countries targeted by the tariffs change their policies (or even perhaps just pledge to change them).

since this would be executive orders, who knows exactly what that order will say. generally a tariff (import tax) is applied when it crosses the border through US customs.

if you had a maverick already built and shipped, and it's possibly (or definitely) over the border before 2/1, no tariff will be assessed on FoMoCo so it shouldn't be assessed to your dealership or you, either. so, all these 2024s on sale hold should not be affected, once they're finally fixed by Ford and able to be purchased.

what do you do? depends on why you are buying a maverick.
1. if you really need a vehicle badly and ordered a 2024 that arrived but you can't buy, you probably have already started looking at 2025 Mavericks and other options. maybe you've even bought something already.

2. if you have a 2025 order that hasn't yet shipped (or been built, or been scheduled), then you can either tell your dealership to cancel (and they may or may not - they actually buy it from Ford, and they own it) or you can just do nothing and decide to not purchase when it arrives.

3. if you really don't *need* a new truck but you just *wanted* one then you get to decide if you want it enough to pay the tariff. I suspect most people will not if the tariff is as high as 25%. it will severely impact Maverick sales. even 10% would be a hit most won't take on.

if mine comes in and has a 25% price increase i'll leave it on the lot for someone else. simple.
same, I just have to argue my 500 dollar non refundable deposit back if it happened, which I dont believe will since granger has told me several times, price protected. they dont see any issues. I think it'll be people who buy after tariffs go into effect

its possible the government itself would honor orders from before tariffs? like ford/gov agreement to not screw over customers- just wishful thinking.

I would have to say If the order was confirmed before Trump took office I would think it would be safe from the tariff. Bill Ford has been in communication with Trump. Ford may have to eat the tariff on orders before Jan.20th . if thats not true. Just saying since I have a Lariat order confirmed dec 15th .If it gets tariffed Ford can leave it in Mexico .
