I really need a truck but I also really want an efficient vehicle. We got one of the very first Maverick Hybrid's off the line and it's been... not great. It's currently parked at the dealership where it's been for a month waiting for a part. It has fewer than 15,000 miles on it. This is its third long spell at the shop. Sadly the third problem was different from the first two so it's not *quite* a lemon. We've pretty much had it with this particular vehicle. Also, it's an XL and it turns out I really need a vehicle with cruise control. We're looking to trade it in for a new Maverick once all the things are fixed.

Do we go hybrid again, or is it "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me?". Do we go ecoboost instead? Also muddying the waters, there are several ecoboosts available locally, but no hybrids until April or May. What had been other people's experience with the hybrid? Were we just really unlucky?

What was and is it in for ?

First model years do tend to be more problematic but not all the time.

You need to find a better dealer. All parts are the same on 22-24 and substantially the same on the 25 models, so there should not be a problem getting any part. Get Ford involved and kick the dealership management out of business. All they're doing is making bad vibes for Ford while they plan their getaway.

It was in twice for a faulty connection that would cause it to drive fine and then not restart after stopping (this happened most memorably near an erupting volcano). This time is less clear - we took it in for the check engine light and various recalls. My husband was driving it home two days before Christmas and it died on the side of the road. It's been in the shop ever since. We've been told they're waiting for a part. I'm hoping the part is the entire engine at this point, TBH.

In fairness, we're in Hawaii. If it was something that can't fly air, it'll take several weeks to get here.

I can't think of a part that is unable to be shipped by air. Even a full engine replacement is only about 400lbs and easily fits in a quarter-pallet box.

I don't know. They've been paying for a rental Explorer for us for a month now. Not sure how happy they are about that.

At any rate, our relationship with this truck has run its course. Are people generally happy with their hybrids?

I just had Earlene in for her first oil change. I got her on January 1, 2024.

2023 XLT Hybrid

I’m very happy with this truck!

I’m off visiting grandkids for 3 weeks at a time. This truck has always started right up when I return.

Averaging 46 mph using 87 octane.

No issues whatsoever (knocking on wood).

Lisa S,
Try switching to 91 octane. You may be able to coax "Earlene" up to 50 mph. 😁

Just kidding. I'm glad you like your Maverick.

The first model years are rough. Regardless of that, I have a 23 XLT Hybrid and absolutely love it. No problems at 15,000 miles. With gas prices in Hawaii, a hybrid is a no brainer especially with AWD an option. You bought the bare bones model and I wanted those things you want and I got the XLT. I think the 25 XL comes with CC standard no. 2025 Hybrid is the way to go in my opinion

It would be a good idea to ask the dealer how many hybrid Mavericks they have sold/serviced in comparison to Ecoboost. If the numbers are small, that's not a good situation.
One of the reasons I went with EcoBoost is that they far outnumber hybrids in the frozen tundra where I live. When I was shopping for the Maverick some dealers had never sold or serviced a hybrid.

Yikes, almost 3 years with our ecoboost and not one issue, other than 2 software recalls.sorry for your misfortune. Hoping to get 15 years out of our maverick like our dodges.

Yikes, almost 3 years with our hybrid and not one issue, other than software recalls and a CV axle. Sorry for your misfortune. Hoping to get more years out of our maverick like every other vehicle we've ever owned.

The hybrid electric part of the Maverick has an 8 year 100k warranty. All of the Ford Ecoblast motors have had some real bad issues. Any motor that is spun up by a plastic turbo for horsepower is suseptible to problems. Check out the recalls on all of them. Right now I believe Ford has at least 60 recalls, double anyone else. Their stocks are also down 62%. I do have a hybrid and like it's idea but am very nervous. A recall is coming in the 1st quarter for the Hybrids up to 2024 for problems with dieing 12v batteries, many have had to be replaced or need constant charging. My 24 has this problem.
