2024 Maverick Backup Cam Recall

I'm finally ready to buy, and then I got smacked in the face with this right before my test drive...

Man, I haven't been so let down by a company in a while. This sucks really bad. I don't know why I get my hopes up, life is compromise and settling for what you can get, having dreams is pointless, etc. Thanks Ford...

This recall is much more than a simple camera issue... since every sydtem communicates with the other systems on the car a failure in the camera can mean loss of power, engine derate, transmission issues and more.

I wish you could still buy a SIMPLE vehicle without all this technology. How long will this tech be supported before the mfg's no longer support these systems and owners are left on their own.

My '87 F350 will always be repairable... older pre computer models ever more so.

My '65 Dodge may be my only ride thst runs someday!

Does anyone know how many unsold 2024 XL and XLTs are sitting on dealer lots waiting on the fix? Just curious.

I'm curious to see what the fix is. Some have mentioned they will simply allocate all available processing power to backup camera during startup but that doesn't make sense. What if your already driving and out it in reverse. You can't disable all other systems.

I'm not a software engineer but this o think will be heavily involved.

Considering it doesn't have a problem the majority of the time for it seems a majority of the drivers, with all systems go - nothing so extreme needs to be taken.

If they can't figure out what's jumping in to hog resources, just need recoding to cut out anything but the basics.

Want that list of songs on thumb drive scanned to be ready to play?

It already only displays the video - it's a question of what else is it trying to do in the background that probably isn't required.

Correct they took a small deposit after we negotiated on a final price. Paying full in cash once gets fixed. Was told "if a couple months go bye and you want to go in a different direction" then I'd be able to get my deposit back. Using a rental at the moment and hoping it isn't long or else I think I'm going to have to shop around for another vehicle.

The solution to fixing this was making sync standard in 2025 models.

Which means Ford's most direct solution is to replace the APIM modules with Sync3 or Sync4.

However Sync4 may require the larger screen which I am ok with.

I have strong reservations Ford is going to replace all these SYNC 0 units with at least a SYNC 3. That is just not going to happen for financial reasons.

For grins and chuckles. let's say there are about 300,00 Mavericks built to date across all trims. Let's say 75,000 are Lariats. That leaves 225,000 Mavericks needing this fix. For easy math each fix cost Ford about $1,000.00 parts and dealer labour. That is a $225,000,000 recall.

It's going to get fixed just good enough to keep Uncle Sugar off their backs.

Jeez, if you subtract 169 Million Dollar Fine from that $225 million almost seems like it's a bargain to have done the right thing in the beginning.

Yeah, true story. I'm sure my numbers are not correct but thinking I may at least be in a ballpark.

How much cheaper would it have been to just put the SYNC 3 in all trims. But probable supply chain issues back in '21 was a consideration at the time.

16,000+ is what I got.

I should add - that's what I can see on the tool that dealers use to see inventory at other dealerships. So those are 2024 XL & XLTs on dealers lot in USA. Dealers can "hide" vehicles from showing up on there, so there may be more than the 16,000 I found.

If you look back their original recall was only for units built up to November of 2023 and the FIX was to upgrade CTR software to what was loaded on 24's after that build date (report said they did "stress testing" and that was THE fix). Then shortly after they came back expanded the recall because guess what....that was a BS solution and it didnt work as 24's with that software had the same issues.

NHTSA is watching this and they won't risk to issue a recall on a recall (not for this one at least).

This will be a hardware recall.

We didn't get any details...but the latest communication to dealers from Ford about this recall did indicate that parts would be involved (all they actually said was that "delays in final repair and parts availability" were anticipated).
