Hell, I was just driving down in Florida and at 80 I was getting passed like I was standing still. At 70 the HWP may pull you over for impeding the flow of traffic.
90 is about norm for speeders in FL. Was hit by one in last vehicle by someone doing that at night in the rain on 95. Uninsured of course. Tried reinstating next day. His car was totaled. Payback!

Sometimes Karma can be a cruel, but righteous bitch. Don't you just love it when that happens? Of course, in all fairness, the people in FL think that the 95 in I-95 IS the speed limit.

I'm not sure I understand all this. Help me out. Are you saying:
(1) You think people will get better mileage with the EcoBoost Maverick than the hybrid?
(2) The hybrid Maverick EPA numbers are pumped up and should be less?
(3) The hybrid Maverick comes with different tires than the EcoBoost?

Check this out from a source with a lot more credibility than I have. As for the MPG, I specifically stated that at higher than typically highway speeds, I believe the Eco will get as good if not better MPG than the Hybrid. I regularly got better MPH on my midsized 2014 Mazda6 than my daughter got in her Prius or Honda Insight at 85 MPH.
You must have forgotten to link to whatever source you are talking about. There was nothing in your post to "check out."

Anyway, you may be misunderstanding my question. I'm not saying you are wrong about anything. I'm just trying to figure out what you were saying.

So... it sounds like you are definitely saying number (1) -- You think EcoBoost will get better mileage than hybrid.

But I still can't tell if you are saying numbers (2) and (3). But maybe that's what was in the source you forgot to identify.

If you are cruising along on electric and need heat or a little more power. How smoothly does combustion engine blend in. Surge or just as smooth as pushing accelerator on traditional combustion engine. Never had much interest, but down the road it may be only option until the real future technologies are developed.
With mine 99% of the time the transition is imperceptible from an acceleration standpoint. On very rare occasion if accelerating from a stop and the HVB charge is very low I'll sometimes get an ICE start that's a bit abrupt (I hesitate to call it "rough"; it's akin to a sharp transmission donwshift).

It seems they deleted the link I pasted. I will try again at the end of this reply. If it gets deleted again, it is a Consumer Reports article on Hybrids and the sacrifice of stopping distances for the sake of increasing EPA estimates. Go to their website and search "Hybrid stopping distance". As for #2 & #3, I am not making a call on what Ford is doing, just giving an opinion base on my past experience. I think the current EPA estimates are more accurate than they have been in the past though. Based on that I personally believe that is is highly possible that the Eco will get at least as good, if not better highway MPG than the hybrid. We shall see.

I pretty much understood that you think the EcoBoost Maverick will get as good or better mileage than the hybrid. I'm happy to wait until hybrids are actually out to see how that goes.

It was really the other two ideas (hybrid EPA numbers being somehow pumped up, hybrid getting different tires) that I was concerned about -- because I am buying a hybrid. It sounds like you don't have any specific info on that related to the Maverick so I guess we'll have to wait on that too.

[ETA] The Consumer Reports article says that the Ford Escape hybrid doesn't sacrifice stopping distance compared to the non-hybrid. That's encouraging, as the Maverick and the Escape have a lot in common.

Currently drive a 2006 Subaru Baja turbo. Most of my driving is city and it gets roughly 17mpg. At 15 years old, the Baja is getting a little long in the tooth. Also requires premium fuel so it’s killing me at the gas pump.

I commute 60 miles each way to work. In the morning it isn't bad the traffic.... but the nighttime drive is rough. Always stop and go $100/week in gas just for work never mind if I actually want to go somewhere for pleasure.

This is what I have been looking for for months now. I need a daily driver that I can get good MPG out of and I also need something that if I need to tow/haul I had that option. Just traded in my 4X Silverado. and now I hope my commuter car hold out till this arrives.

That entire report is boiled down to: some manufacturers have used low-resistance tires on their hybrids. AFAIK, the Maverick comes with the same (common all season) tires on the hybrid as the ICE (for the same trim), so the article is basically meaningless in our context.

Why so much interest in the hybrid? Just curious. Lower hp. Is mpg difference that important to many? Or is it cost?
Trying my best to keep politics out of it is 100% futile. It's 100% about gas prices. It's not a mystery to anyone with a brain why they are high. But, even when they are lower, people still want a 30-40mpg truck. This has been true forever.
I initially wanted an AWD HYBRID. Only to be disappointed to discover they don't make it. I may trade up if they do. However, I love my Cactus AWD FX4 LUX PACKAGE! (30MPG HWY all day long.... - 22-26 in the city depending on how much zipping around I'm doing.)

My 2,0 escape scrapes 30mpg max cruising that fast. You are clueless.
Too bad ,seems you are the one that's clueless. We're not talking about escapes here! I have a maverick 2.0 and I got 27.4 mpg driving around town and can get way over 30 hwy.

I am keeping my full size.
speaking as a retiree what I pay monthly for gas is a real factor. I’m not a speed demon but do want adequate power for cruising, passing & merging. I like the unibody(car like ride) crew cab with a small bed (just big enough to hold my 475lb bike)…..and lastly I like EV/hybrids (protecting the environment.)

As someone on the road a lot fuel is also a huge factor. Both the hybrid and the EB are far from short on power. I need the fuel mileage. I cant and won't dump my 350 because I need the towing capacity and it is by far my favorite truck that I have ever owned. I love that truck. So the mav fills a niche for me.

Don't confuse economics with politics.

Economics is how much you spend for gas.

Politics is how much gas cost.

Two different subjects.

85 mph on the interstate in Georgia will only get you tickets and when you get enough tickets, your license is suspended. 75 mph is about the "average" interstate speed in Georgia.

If someone chooses to believe that an EB will get better mileage than a hybrid, that's no money out of my pocket.

I spend less than $75 a month on gas because that's how I planned it. $25 of that is for my 65 Mustang. That gives me more income to spend elsewhere. The same reason why I sold my 2020 F150 and am replacing it with a 2022 Maverick. The Maverick fills the same requirements for me as the F150 at lower acquistion cost and lower operating cost. That again gives me more money to spend elsewhere.
